Aim: What changes in business and production occurred throughout the Industrial Revolution and beyond? Title: New Methods & Business Organization Do Now: Write down what you know about assembly lines and corporations(ex: what are they? How do they work?) How did assembly lines and corporations affect the growth and success of the Industrial Revolution?
Assembly line:a process used in large factories to put together goods Corporations: big businesses Can anyone name other production methods and/or business organizations with which they are familiar with?
Today’s focus: • New methods of production used during the Industrial Revolution. • Business organizations that arose (came about)during the Industrial Revolution Throughout the lesson, I would like to show a few candidly poignant videos surrounding this very topic of new methods of business practices, starting with, “Henry Ford, Model T, and the Assembly Line.”
OBJECTIVE 1 Working in groups of 5/6: • Each group will be responsible for the creation of a picture that illustrates the effects of the three methods of production. • To facilitate this hands-on “fun” cooperative learning activity, students will be given markers/crayons/color pencils, construction paper and be allowed to use their homework and textbook to assist them on this particular task. --Possible resource: Section 3 Review question #3 (graphic organizer)
Illustrations will vary. Effects of all three methods were: --increased production --lower cost of production --higher profits for owners --lower cost to consumers An additional effect of the assembly line was that it saved time and energy.
OBJECTIVE 2: Types of Business • Re-read p.557 and define the terms sole proprietorship, partnership, andcorporation. • For each term, identify a business in your community that fits that definition. • Finally, write at least one paragraph answering the question: Why have corporations been so important to the U.S. economy since the Industrial Revolution? Support your argument with specific details – from the news, past research, or your personal experience. • In the end, we will conduct a group “share out” with the rest of the classroom ensuring that we are all on the “same page,” and thoroughly comprehend this very important assignment.
OBJECTIVE 3 Turn your attention to the chain of causes and effects described in the second paragraph on page 558. I will provide students with a copy of a circular flowchart – Using this flowchart, please fill in the empty boxes with necessary information to complete the business cycle chain of events with the use of your textbook.

(Define & give the significance) What was the working condition like throughout this age? • Review the PPT pertaining to today’s lesson.
