What is a SHSM? • A specialized pathway to engage students by giving them specialized experiences in their area of interest • Specific criteria to meet - set by the Ministry of Education • Students earn a SHSM Red Seal on their diplomas and SHSM Records of Activity • Students can enroll and if they complete at least half, they will earn a “Partially Completed” SHSM Record of Activity
Criteria to be Met During grades 11/12 • Major credits (2 per grade) • Minor credits (different for each SHSM) • Co-operative Education Credits ( 2 Co-op) • CLA’s (Contextualized Learning Activities) • Experiential Learning • Reach Ahead Opportunities • Certifications – paid for through the SHSM • Ontario Skills Passport

Sign me UP! Step 1: Talk to the teachers and get an application form signed: Arts and Culture – MsRoi, Mr. T. Smith Manufacturing – Mr. Clapiz, Mr. Seiler ICT – Mr. Clapiz Co-op – Mrs. Steeds Step 2: Select the SHSM holding code during Online Option Entry Process. Choose the required courses. We will look at your timetable closely. Step 3: Come to guidance to arrange your timetable once the co-op is settled.

Global CONNECT in a nutshellEveryone can be global leader through individual action. • Grade 9 – connect with the local community. • Grade 10 – learn about the global community. • Grade 11 – choose to participate in Global CONNECT leadership course – GPP3O. • Grade 12 – continue participation in Global CONNECT (4 areas to complete to receive a Global CONNECT certificate at graduation).

GPP3O – Grade 11 Global CONNECT Course • Grade 9 Mentoring • Learn about leadership styles and global leaders • Learn about local issues • Learn about global issues • Run events and reflect on your leadership • Create a leadership portfolio • Choose an issue and make a plan of action
Grade 12 Global CONNECT 4 Components: 1. Coursework related to Global CONNECT issue 2. Co-curricular Leadership Project 3. Service Trip or extended volunteer activity 4. Add grade 12 activity to the portfolio Receive a Global CONNECT Certificate of Accomplishment at graduation. Great for a resume!
