Learning goal • To learn another rhetorical analysis format: the Rhetorical Precis. • Continue practical application of Premise/Conclusion argumentation.
Rhetorical precis • Discussion of this new method of rhetorical analysis. • Refer to Precis handout from last week. • With your Team, create a Precis for the “Sugar Love” article, which you are familiar with since we have used it in the past. • You will have 10 minutes to refresh your memory of the article, and to work together on one complete precis for your Team. • DO NOT USE ONE OF THE SAMPLE BLANK FORMS. • WRITE YOUR TEAM PRECIS ON A BLANK PIECE OF PAPER, MAKING COMPLETE SENTENCES.
INDIVIDUAL PRECIS • Read “A Nation of Wimps.” • Do not write on this copy, as it is a class set. • Create a precis for the article. As with your Team, do not fill in a blank form, but write it out on a piece of paper using complete sentences. • You will have 30 minutes for this activity.
Back to premises/conclusions • Read the article “Monsters, Ghosts and Gods: Why We Believe.” Do not write on it as it is a class set. • You will also be using “Sugar Love” again. • Create a premises/conclusion argument for each article. • You must have at least 4 premises for each. • This assignment is due before you leave class today.
