  3. Occupation: US Senator (Arizona) • Background: 21 years of Senate experience, four years of House experience, 22 years of military service ending as a Captain in the US Navy • Motto: “Ready from day one” • Party: Republican

  4. McCain’s Domestic Policies • Abortion: Voted for the Prohibit Partial Birth Abortion bill and supports overturning Roe v. Wade • Economy: Would lower corporate tax rate 10%, supports establishing a R&D tax credit • Education: Supports No Child Left Behind, supports parents being active in schools, will demand accountability and responsibility from our education system • Environment: Promoted the 2007 Climate Stewardship and Innovation Act, proposes use of alternative energy sources • HealthCare: Opposes federally mandated universal healthcare, supports medical malpractice reform • Same-SexMarriage: Supports definition of marriage as a man and a woman but opposes amendment to ban same sex marriages, believes it’s a state decision, supports legal benefits for same-sex partners • SocialSecurity: Believes we can supplement Social Security with personal accounts, reduce growth in medical costs through reforms

McCain’s Foreign/Security Policies • Gun Control: Promotes background checks for purchases at gun shows, voted against 10-year extension of Assault Weapons Ban, opposes mandatory trigger locks for handguns • Energy: Does not support subsidizing ALL alternative fuels, has supported a market based bipartisan plan to reduce climate change and stimulate the use of advanced technologies • HomelandSecurity: Voted for the Patriot Act and for its reauthorization, would increase military budget and personnel, would close Guantanamo Bay Prison • Iraq: Voted for use of military force in Iraq, supported Bush veto of war spending bill that would have withdrawn most U.S. troops by March 2008 • Immigration: Co-sponsored Bush-immigration plan, voted for Mexican fence

Obama’s Domestic Policies • Abortion: Opposes constitutional amendment to overturn Roe v Wade • Economy: Supports a $75 billion dollar tax cut to business and families, would extend and expand unemployment insurance • Education: Reform No Child Left Behind Act, make Science and Math national priorities, reduce high school dropout rates • Environment: Establish a national Low Carbon Fuel Standard, Technology Transfer program to export fuel efficiency • HealthCare: National health care coverage for anyone not covered by employers, allows individuals to select from private or public insurance programs • Same-SexMarriage: Opposes same sex marriages but supports civil unions • SocialSecurity: Opposes private accounts, payroll tax reform can fix Social Security

Obama’s Foreign/Security Policies • GunControl: Voted for the 10 year extension of the Assault Weapons Ban, supports national law against concealed weapons, supports limiting gun sales to one per month • Energy: Reduce carbon emissions 80% by 2050, invest $150 billion to clean energy over 10 years, proposes increasing fuel standards by 2025. • HomelandSecurity: Voted for the Patriot Act but would revise it, would implement 9/11 Commissions recommendations, creation of critical infrastructure protection plan, would close Guantanamo Bay Prison • Iraq: Opposed Iraq War, voted for war spending bill to remove most US troops by March 2008 • Immigration: Supported Bush-immigration plan, voted for Mexican fence
