Credit Checks • Credit checks for all Grade 12 students will be done over the next week. A Potential Graduation List will then be posted. Grade 12 students are encouraged to make an appointment with their Guidance Counsellors to ensure things are in place to support their future academic plans.
Graduation Requirements • TOTAL OF 18 CREDITS • 3 ENGLISH 10,11, and 12 • 2 MATH • 2 SCIENCE (Sci10, Bio11, Phy 11,Chem 11) plus one other • 2 credits from (Math, Science OR Tech) • 1 Canadian Studies (MkQ10,Can.His11,ACS11) • 1 GLOBAL STUDIES (GGS12/HGS12) • 1 FINE ARTS (Visual Art, Music or Drama) • 1 PAL or PHE • No more than 7 grade 10 credits towards 18 mandatory credits • Min. 5 grade 12 credits

How to finance my education! • Register with on-line scholarship/awards search sites. http://www.studentawards.com • Check with parents’ employment /union and with students’ employer. • Check with community organizations if you are involved (i.e. Boys and Girls Club,Church, cadets, scouts, guides….). • Announcements at HWHS (available on HWHS homepage , link to announcements on left ). • Check the wall outside Guidance Office for posted information. • Scholarship, bursary and award opportunities are updated on a regular basis on the guidance website (info also available in binder located in guidance).

African-Nova Scotian,First Nations & Indigenous Black Students Scholarship / Awards • Please self-identify to your counsellor if you qualify for these awards to ensure your course load meets the various criteria.
HWHS School-Based Awards/Prizes • $100 to $1000 • Most are sponsored by community groups such as the Freemasons, Lions’ Clubs, Heritage / Cultural Organizations, political parties, etc. • Different criteria: financial need, disability, post-secondary program or institution, where you live, political ridings, etc. • Complete a Student Awards Application online, starting December 1 to final deadline April 1, 2013.
