AHISD Athletic Mission The mission of the Alamo Heights Independent School District Athletic Department is to provide opportunities for student athletes to develop the skills, character, fitness and overall health that promote excellence in academics, athletics and life. ATHLETIC INFORMATION • Please sign up for the newsletter by sending an email to: • mbond@ahisd.net --- boys • mboyer@ahisd.net ----girls The newsletter will include reminders for athletics, schedules, paperwork, request for volunteers, etc.
Sports offered • UIL sports at AHJS in conjunction with Athletic period: • Boys: football, Basketball, Track • Girls: Volleyball, Basketball, Track • Outside of athletics but still UIL sport • Tennis both boys and girls. • Club sports: • These are not UIL sports in our district and do not fall under Athletic conference or practice in the Athletic period. • Soccer, Golf, Lacrosse
PAPERWORK NEEDED To participate in UIL sports you will need the following: • Physical from a Doctor on the correct UIL form • Due: June 5th, 2013 • AHISD 24 hour code of leadership form. • Will be handed out the first week of school • AHJS Athletics Guidelines and information. • Available on the AHJS Athletic web page in August 2013 • Parents and students have read the AHISD Athletic Standards.
Eligibility • First 6 weeks will be a grade check. • Report card every 9 weeks. • Progress report every 3 weeks to regain eligibility. • What is passing? 70 or above in all classes. • Waiver for advanced classes (GT or HS credit). • Can only use once a year for one class.
Daily expectations • Dress out in PE Clothes or practice attire. • Shoes- designed for sport or running. • Sweats- for inclement weather days. • Water bottle.
What is Off- Season? • When you are not currently on a “team” you will do workouts during athletic period. • This group is titled “Off-season”. • Workouts will include but are not limited to: • Weight lifting • Running or conditioning workouts • Agility training • Speed and power training • Core strength training • Instructions on injury prevention and stretching • Preparation for next season/sport
TEAM LEVELS AND PHYLOSOPHY To develop individual and team skills to a competitive level in preparation for participation in high school sports. Individual skill level, attitude, attendance, team dynamics and coachability will determine playing time during games. • Football, Volleyball & Basketball will have 3 teams for each grade level. • A team- Blue • B team – Gold • C team- White The three levels of teams are designed to allow each athlete to compete at the appropriate level for they’re current skills and knowledge as determined by the coaching staff. • Track & Tennis will have one team for each grade level.
SPORTS SCHEDULES We will be receiving schedules at the end of May. • FOOTBALL- • Begins: August 26th , first game – week of Sept. 9th • Ends: Last week in Oct. • Volleyball- • Begins: August 26th, first game – week of Sept. 9th • Ends: First week in Nov. • Basketball- • Boys: Nov.- Jan. • Girls: last week In Nov. – Feb. • Tennis- Dec. – Feb. • Track- March & April
PARENT VOLUNTEERS • EACH TEAM WILL NEED TEAM PARENTS FOR THE FOLLOWING: • PLAN ANY SPECIAL EVENTS. • ORGANIZE CONCESSION STAND WORKERS. • ORGANIZE AND PREPARE TEAM SNACKS FOR GAME DAYS.
COMMUNICATION REQUEST • When questions or concerns arise: • Encourage your child to speak with the coach directly. • Contact the appropriate coach as soon as possible • Email is the best way during the school day. • Request a short meeting with the coach. • Please avoid before and after games to avoid interruption with coaching duties and supervision. • If you are not able to get a response or resolution please contact Coach Bond or Boyer next.
SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES • MIT • HS CAMPS • SUMMER AT HEIGHTS All Summer activities associated with AHISD will have information available through AHISD.NET.
PREP FOR NEXT YEAR • PHYSICALS DUE • FB/VB PARENT MEETING • Football August 23rd – 1:30pm • Volleyball August 23rd- 3:30 pm • FB PAD hand out: Aug. 23rd • 9-10am 8th graders • 10-11 am 7th graders • GIRLS ATH. LOCKERS • August 23rd 2:30 to 3:30 (before parent meeting) • FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL INFO. • Volleyball 7th grade meeting and tryout set up after school (check for paperwork and go over tryout test) • Volleyball 8th grade tryouts begin 8th period- 5:30pm
Annual Picnic & Scrimmage • Date: TBA at the end of May. Jenny Curren will be in charge of this event. • Please contact her if you would like to help.
