State Information Services • Every state provides public information services. • Public Information officers provide routine information to the public and the press on the policies, programs, and activities of the various state agencies.
City Information Services • Cities employee “information specialists” to distribute news • Constant flow of information about learning how to take full advantage of opportunities
Criticism of Government Information Efforts • Between 2003 and 2006, the Bush administration spent over $1.6 billion on contracts with advertising and PR firms • Later, the court ruled that federal money could be spent on such communication as long as they openly acknowledge the governments role in the advertisement
