Minor Skin Injuries • Open injury • Abrasion • Penetrating wound • Laceration • Avulsion (separation of layers of skin)
What do you do? • Rinse • Control Bleeding • Secure dressing • Splint • Check for signs of shock Ice Compression Elevation Splint
Bleeding STOP THE BLEEDING! Pressure Dress Pressure Dressing Ice & Elevate Tourniquet
Broken Limbs, Joint Sprains • Joint • Limb above and below • Limb • Joint above and below
Stings and Bites • Sting • Remove stinger • Ice • Look for signs of shock • Watch CAB • Bites • Mark bite • Keep below level of heart • Look for signs of shock • Watch CAB
Inflammation Infection • How do you know? • Swelling • Redness • Fever • Puss/discoloration • Smell • What do you do? • Clean • Antibiotic ointment • Doctor Ice Elevate
Head Injuries CAB Stop bleeding Immobilize head Beware of neck injuries Go to hospital If bleeding from ears, don’t stop bleeding
Stroke • “Brain Attack” • Symptoms: • Facial Droop • Arm Drift • Speech
Follow CAB C – Circulation A – Airway B – Breathing
