Mandato • The task of ACCU is to advise the DG on the practical measures to be taken and administrative internal arrangements to be made by the CERN Management for the utilization of the CERN facilities for research. This concerns in particular the working conditions and the arrangements for technical support to the CERN Users for their activity at the CERN Laboratory. • Questions dealing with the scientific programme of CERN do not fall under these terms of reference. Nota storica ~SPS • CERN/CC/1269 del 24 August 1977 (Committee of Council) Proposal to Set up an Advisory Committee of CERN Users – preparata per il Council meeting del 16 September 1977 – esiste in E/F ma non elettronica • In November 1977 an ACCU was set up with the task of advising the DG on the practical measures and the administrative internal arrangements to be taken by the CERN Management for the utilization of the CERN facilities for research. Nota storica (2) ~LEP • It became desirable in 1988 to revise the terms of reference and the rules of membership of the Committee, with the aim of strengthening the representativity of its members and its efficiency as a mutual consultation channel between the DG and the communities of Users. • The mandate was again revised in 2004 to fit with the new CERN organizational structure. ~LHC Party dic. 1993 FLN, CSN1, Assisi, 20 settembre 2004

Composizione (2) Fino al 2003 era presente alle riunioni anche il DG, un direttore della ricerca, il direttore dell’amministrazione (a volte), il responsabile delle relazioni con i MS ACCU rappresenta tutti gli Users, staff e visitatori, appartenenti a tutti i dipartimenti [lo Users’ Office è stato parte delle divisioni NP, EP, PPE, EP, adesso del dipartimento PH(-EP), in futuro dovrà farsi carico di tutti gli users (non pagati, UPAS)] FLN, CSN1, Assisi, 20 settembre 2004

Action items • Richiesta di permessi Ci per i congiunti degli Utilizzatori (marzo 99): la discussione/i contatti con le autorità elvetiche continuano • Valutare rapidamente la necessità di aumentare la capienza delle foresterie durante la costruzione e l’operazione di LHC (giugno 04): ~ 11 MCHF per 135 stanze/175 letti, costruiti in 2 anni + 1, ~2007 (A. Naudi) risposta degli utilizzatori(?)/esperimenti(?)/ACCU(?) A breve termine, nuovo hotel al Balexert, 89 CHF, il CERN è pronto a riservare 40(?) stanze/letti a un prezzo inferiore risposta • Implicazioni della riduzione nel numero F&A (marzo 04): per il momento il management ha allocato ulteriori fondi e sta valutando il budget dei prossimi anni — il CERN deve continuare a giocare un ruolo importante nella formazione FLN, CSN1, Assisi, 20 settembre 2004

Action items (2) • Richiesta ai delegati di controllare le pagine Web sui MS raggiungibili dall’ACCU homepage (marzo 04): il loro mantenimento richiede lavoro, saranno temporaneamente rimosse per vedere le reazioni (se) • Pubblicità per le celebrazioni del 50o anniversario (giugno 04): 17 settembre (staff/user party), 29 settembre (anniversario, illuminazione anello LHC, ripresa aerea/sat.), 16 ottobre (Porte Aperte, 50 siti visitabili), 19 ottobre (PA, solo per pochi) • I delegati devono pubblicizzare l’importanza di EPOG presso le loro agenzie (giugno 04): lo stiamo facendo – “activate the masses” (F. Close) – http://outreach.cern.ch • CO deve inviare ai TL istruzioni in caso di furto (sett 03): il GPB/PPG non si è riunito, ma presto circolerà un documento FLN, CSN1, Assisi, 20 settembre 2004

Notizie dal management • (8 settembre) • il 1o toroide centrale di ATLAS è arrivato fino alla corrente di progetto e oltre, dopo altre prove sarà installato nel pozzo in ottobre – si tratta del più grande magnete SC al mondo • LHC: il CERN deve assumere un ruolo maggiore nella criogenia nel tunnel, le riparazioni e le interazioni con le ditte vanno avanti, gli esperimenti collaborano per permettere il lavoro in situ (QRL), si spera di recuperare il ritardo – migliori stime a fine anno • LCG va bene, nella fase 1 i centri remoti sono usati per la produzione, per quanto ancora non a pieno ritmo FLN, CSN1, Assisi, 20 settembre 2004

Dal Rosso) http://cern.ch/ph-dep/ACCU/Minutes/Welcome.html 19000 visite nel 2003, 22000 nel 2004; gli italiani (scuole) sono molto presenti; occorrono più guide (volontarie); qualche problema di trasporto (gruppi senza bus); OpenDay > 20k visitatori 16/10/2004 Durata dei computer accounts (L. Pregernig) http://cern.ch/ph-dep/ACCU/Minutes/Welcome.html al momento solo gli account non usati sono chiusi; problemi con la sicurezza, si vuole legare la fine account col contratto, lo user e il TL sono informati 1 mese prima (3 se <50% al CERN), l’account è bloccato 2 mesi dopo la fine contratto 01/02/2005 FLN, CSN1, Assisi, 20 settembre 2004

Notizie UO • Continua il lavoro per prendersi in carico gli UPAS di altri dipartimenti http://cern.ch/ph-dep/ACCU/Minutes/Welcome.html • L’estensione dell’UO è rimandata • La pagina Web è stata rinnovata, eg statistiche annuali, informazioni per registrarsi • Questionario UO: ~850 risposte due gg di chiusura 20-21 ottobre, esercizio di Team Building • Grey Book http://greybook.cern.ch ormai mancano solo 20 riferimenti sui 2200 che coprono 30 anni di esperimenti CERN • L’attuale dosimetro sarà presto sostituito, vedi Bulletin 36/2004-30.8.2004 FLN, CSN1, Assisi, 20 settembre 2004
