ACCU • IL Comitato ACCU del CERN e’ stato proposto dal Committee del Council il 24 August 1977 come un Advisory Committee of CERN Users. • La prima riunione e’ avvenuta nel Novembre1977 • Mandato: • The task of ACCU is to advise the DG on the practical measures to be taken and administrative internal arrangements to be made by the CERN Management for the utilization of the CERN facilities for research. • This concerns in particular the working conditions and the arrangements for technical support to the CERN Users for their activity at the CERN Laboratory. • Questions dealing with the scientific programme of CERN do not fall under these terms of reference. Composizione (2) • Fino al 2003 era presente alle riunioni : • Il Direttore Generale (oggi occasionalmente), un direttore della ricerca, il direttore dell’amministrazione, il responsabile delle relazioni con gli Stati Membri. • Inoltre il Chairman dell’ACCU partecipava alle riunioni dell’Executive Board del CERN (DG+Direttori di Ricerca) • ACCU aveva un ruolo piu’ rilevante • Il Comitato ACCU rappresenta tutti gli Users, staff e visitatori, appartenenti a tutti i dipartimenti CSN1,Napoli, 19 settembre 2005

  12. Regole generali per evitare incidenti • Use managed systems • Experts manage applications, patches, anti-virus, password rules • Ensure protection when away from “home” • E.g. Pubblicazioni in Open Access (1) • Presentazione all’ACCU di un documento del Comitato SIPB (chairman G.Altarelli) di invito all’ Open Access delle informazioni/pubblicazioni scientifiche • Il CERN ha stabilito gia’ da tempo (Nov. ’03) e recentemente ribadito che tutte le pubblicazioni CERN devo essere disponibili su Web. • It deals with any matters related to policies and strategies of Scientific Information Services to the High Energy Physics community, • The Chairman of the Board is appointed by the DG, and should be a leader of one of the research divisions. Pubblicazioni in Open Access(2) • Nuovo modello di pubblicazione dei dati scientifici: • Giornale elettronico con sistema di review degli articoli • Esempio:JHEP (Journal of high energy physics) iniziato alla SISSA(Trieste). Per pubblicare richiesta di solo una sottoscrizione . • altissimo Impact Factor • OA e basso costo • Organizzazione di una giornata sull’OA al CERN il 16 settembre CSN1,Napoli, 19 settembre 2005

Basic safety course Present organisation • 2 courses in French every Tuesday morning • 2 courses in English every Tuesday afternoon • Duration of the course : 1.30 hour There is no registration to the course in advance • The basic safety course is also available in : • Italian and Russian • Organised in 3 levels. Basic safety course organisation : new procedure • A video projected building 55 • Course available every day at 14.00 and at 15.00 in English • Duration of the video : 50 minutes • Content of the course : same slides as used today + video on real situations • Available in French before the end of the year • The individuals will validate their attendance to the course immediately at the end of the course (card reader) CSN1,Napoli, 19 settembre 2005

Discussione sull’opportunita’ di costruire un nuovo Foyer al CERN • Nel Nov ‘04 fa gli utenti del CERN sono stati chiamati a riempire un questionario sulla effettiva necessita’ di costruire un terzo foyer al CERN e i riportare sulle risposte nella riunione ACCU di dicembre. • Il problema di come raccogliere in maniera efficiente e veloce informazioni sui piu’ di 1000 utenti italiani e’ stato messo in agenda dal nostro Presidente e discusso nella riunione di CSN1 di Novembre. • F.Murtas ha proposto e realizzato in tempi brevissimi un DB che ci ha permesso di raccogliere e analizzare nel giro di un paio di settimane le risposte degli utenti italiani • Siamo stati la Comunita’ che ha fornito le maggiori risposte 414/1078 utenti registrati • Risultato finale: Il 46% delle richieste di alloggio degli utenti italiani sono rifiutate poiche’ il Foyer era occupato • April ’05 :Documento ACCU:42% rifiuti->convincimento da parte del Management del CERN a costruire il 3° Foyer CSN1,Napoli, 19 settembre 2005

Tappe per la costruzione • Costo ~7MFCH, finanziato con un prestito da ripagare in 10 anni • 98 stanze,108 letti • Progetto finalizzato entro il 15 settembre 2005 • Partenza della gara : 24 ottobre 2005 • Approvazione del Comitato Finanze; 15 Marzo 2006 • Inizio costruzione: Aprile 2006 • Inagurazione: primavera del 2007, prima della partenza di LHC confermata per l’estate del 2007!!! Conclusioni • Il successo dell’operazione Foyer dimostra che l’ ACCU svolge una sua funzione a patto che i suoi delegati fanno sentire il peso delle Comunita’ che rappresentano: • Importante che ci segnalate i problemi • Necessita’ di vostro riscontro sulle varie iniziative • Altri piccoli successi ACCU degli ultimi anni: • Supporto alla piattaforma MacOSX (Nov 2003) • Wireless nel nuovo foyer (build 39), da settembre anche nel Buid.38 • Navetta per l’aeroporto alle ore 17 CSN1,Napoli, 19 settembre 2005
