4. Point 3: Introduce Staff Members Now, I will introduce the staff members to you. This is Mr. Jiang. He is our Academic Affairs Director. This is Mrs. Lee. She is our Student Affairs Director. This is Miss Qu. She is our General Affairs Director. And this is Mr. Hung. He is our Counselor Center Director. By the way, I’d like to also introduce our Personnel Director, Mr. IV and our Accounting Office Director, Mrs. Wang. All of them are so great and they help the school a lot.

6. Point 4: School History “Our school was founded in 1985. It is 24 years old. It was built by the first principal. One interesting fact about our school is that it was renamed in 1985 because the school moved to its present location.”

8. Point 5: What’s Unique About School My school has the best interaction between faculty and community, and also is well known for its billiards and dancing. My school has been appointed as the auspice school of Korfball which is one of the sports events of the 2009 World Games in Kaohsiung. I am the Venue Manager.

10. Point 6: School Basic Facts Our school is an urban school. Our school has 2200 students and 140 teachers. All of our classes are held in our 4 buildings, which are arranged in a rectangular pattern. We teach grades 7 thru 9. Our school’s physical address is: No. 352, Han Min Road, Xiaogang District Kaohsiung City, 812, TAIWAN

12. Point 7: Students and Parents Our students come from low-class families. Most of them live nearby in the neighborhood. Some are from minority groups such as Hakka, Aborigine, and some are the children of new immigrants who come from Malaysia, Vietnam, and so forth. Some have mothers who were foreign brides. Some of them are from one-parent families, in fact, about 1 out of every 8 students. They need more care than the common children. Most of our parents are blue collar workers. They are not very active in our Parents Association. Many parents bring their children to school and pick them up after school. Our school is a co-ed school, with 50% boys and 50% girls. Many of our parents help their children with their homework. They care so much about their children’s grades and test scores. They want their children to enroll in a famous senior high school in the future.

14. Point 8: Facilities, Classrooms and Equipment We have 66 classrooms, a library, an audio-visual room, some teachers’ lounges, and a few laboratories. We also have a gym, a basketball field, a play-ground, a korfball court, and a weight room. Each of our classrooms has wireless internet and a blackboard. Our students clean the rooms and school grounds every morning and also after school. The average class has about 34 students. We also have a health clinic which is staffed by a nurse who gives the students a physical checkup once a semester, including checking for height, weight, dental care, and eye care. Our classes all have fans and the laboratories have air-conditioning.

16. Point 9: Daily Routines Students clean the school grounds starting from 7:30am. After that, students study by themselves. Once a week (or twice a week for the 7th and 8th grades) at 8:00am we have a flag-raising ceremony. Classes begin at 8:30am. We do not offer breakfast at school. Most students eat at home or at small food stands near the school. Every class lasts for 45 minutes. Then there is a 10-minute break between classes. Lunch time is at 12 noon, which lasts about 40 minutes and students can go outside and play or stay inside and take a nap. Teachers also take naps. Classes begin again at 1:30pm. Students clean classes at 3:10pm., and school ends at 4:10pm. There are 7 classes a day. We have 1 extra-curricular class (the eighth class) and other activities after school, such as dance classes, sports, art, math, and foreign language. We also have a ninth class for 9th graders who want to reinforce and improve their homework and knowledge base in key subjects.

Point 10: School Future “Our school plans to expand our English program in daily time around the campus to create a whole English learning circumstance in the near future.”“We also plan to rebuild the playground.” “Also, Taiwan’s society is changing and these may affect our school. For example, Taiwan’s birth rate is decreasing and so we may have fewer students in the school. Classes may get smaller; maybe down to 25 students a class, we have 33 students now. Some schools might even have to combine with other schools in the future, forcing older teachers to retire sooner; even they are not so old, just around 55. Fortunately, our school has immigrants and located in downtown of Xiaogang District and without this situation within these years. Currently young teachers are having a difficult time finding work, so this is something we have to think about in the future. Teachers will have to pay taxes in the future. Currently, elementary and junior high school teachers do not have to pay taxes but this may change later on.”

20. Point 11: School Current Events This month is our summer vacation. We have summer vacation during July and August, last for 2 months. Also our school’s have the extra-curricular classes for students who need to enforce their subjects. Our school’s anniversary is on November 12th, the same day of our country Father - Dr. Sun Yet San. We also call it Sports’ Day because we have sports like tug-of-war and races and silly games like three-legged races using a bag (Bobbed for apples). We are currently preparing for the 2009 World Games. Our school’s sister country is Madagascar, The biggest island country in the world, just like Taiwan, the biggest island country in Asia. So our students are learning about that country. We have the real $ bill of Madagascar, because we have a student whose father have been worked in Madagascar.
