Early Political Career • Two Terms in the New York State Legislature (1910-1912). • Assistant Secretary of Navy under Woodrow Wilson (1913-1919). • Runs as VP Candidate with James Cox in 1920 Presidential Election. • Elected Governor of New York (1928).
Tragedy Strikes • Stricken With Polio in 1921 • Rehabilitates in Warm Springs, GA • Purchases the resort in Warm Springs to help polio victims
Election of 1932 • Herbert Hoover – Republican Incumbent • F.D.R. – Democratic Candidate, he wins the nomination on the fourth ballot at the Democratic Convention. Conditions in the U.S. • 13 million Americans out of work. • Moral in the country is low. • Many feel a change in party leadership is needed.
