The POEtic project aims to develop a flexible computational substrate inspired by biological systems' evolutionary, developmental, and learning phases. The POEtic tissue will be composed of a variable number of cells, each with different functionalities resembling totipotent cells in living organisms. Groups of cells will cooperate to realize tasks, akin to organ-like substructures. Potential impact areas include Complex Systems, Bio-inspired Systems, and Beyond living artefacts.

Expected achievement The POEtic tissue will be a cellular surface composed of a variable number of elements, or cells. Each cell of the tissue will have the same basic structure, but will be able to acquire different functionalities, as "totipotent cells" in living organisms. Within such structure, groups of cells will be able to co-operate to realise a given task, giving rise to substructures not unlike organs in living beings.
