The Story they Told • Israel is still in exile for sin. • God would one day intervene to set things straight and rescue his people, Israel. He would keep promises to Abraham, David as reiterated in the prophets. • In this way God would also bring salvation to the entire world.

Matthew • Jesus son of David (promise/fulfillment) • Jesus as son of Abraham • Genealogy: exile brought to an end • Gentiles responding to Jesus in Matt. 8—banquet, Great Commission, Magi-foreigners • Jesus Egypt, out of Egypt baptized in Jordan and wilderness for temptation
