Attribute: Events make the book realistic fiction Title: The Chief What is your book’s genre? Write it here: Realistic Fiction Attribute: Setting is in the real world The characters in this story are believable. Example: Night Hoops Example: On the Devils Court Example: Summer Ball

  3. Attribute: Events make the story realistic fiction. “That morning John L. zigged when he should have zagged, and Sonny smacked him in the face. It wasn’t a hard shot, a slow right cross, and John L. shook it off, but from the look on Richie’s face you’d have thought Sonny dropped a lead pipe on John L.’s head.” (91) “I got to talk to Richie only once, caught him alone staring at the wall after a workout. I stood quietly until he turned to me and said, John L. would of loved all this. He talked about Sonny a lot. You know that pillow Sonny gave him? I stuck it in the coffin right before they closed it.” (199) “Iron Pete comes right out at the bell, misses with a long, loopy right, takes two jabs and then clinches. He’s six feet tall, an inch shorter than Sonny, but he’s wider and heavier.“ (12) Beginning End Middle

  4. Attribute: The setting is in the real world. Middle Beginning End “’It has to have been peanuts, doesn’t it?’ said Rose. ‘I think so. Dona Maria-Exaltacion dies of eating ‘poisoned candy—it could easily have been a praline. . . . It would be easy for him to carry a handful of powdered nuts wrapped in paper and dump them in the strongest-tasting dish he could find”(270). “I know we’re in trouble when I pull the van up to the arena, a bush league hockey rink behind an abandoned factory. Still stinks of fish. The marquee over the entrance has SONNY BEAR half the size of IRON PETE VIERA.“page (2) John L. leaned back in his chair and put his hands on top of his big gut. My grandpa Moise came over from Russia, settled in Brooklyn.(89)

  5. Attribute: The characters in the story are believable. “ “Hi there. She’s wearing jeans a safari jacket. Tall, slim, dark hair. She’s only a few years older than Sonny and I, maybe twenty three, but she’s pretty sure of herself.” (8) End Beginning Middle
