IMTC 2005 • Theme of the Forum: “The Next Frontier in Multimedia Communications” • “Next Frontier” is “NGN” (“Next Generation Networks”) – with strong emphasis on supporting multimedia communications and applications • Also much “hype” around NGN, but IMTC must find its role in the NGN standardization, interoperability testing, deployment efforts. IMTC Leadership Award Considerations and Parameters • Leadership in multi-media communications. • Recognize significant contribution by an individual or company. • Recognize the importance of creating and working within industry effort providing collaborative contributions to a product type, protocol profile, or service offering. (e.g. work with standards, interoperability, integration, etc., but does not include work on any specific products). • Create an environment that allows for innovation to happen. IMTC Leadership Award Ron Arps, IBM Almaden Research Center Leading research figure in the area of still image compression and coding for more than 35 years. Researcher; mentor to generations of still picture coding experts worldwide; key contributor to standards bodies, including the ITU-T and ISO/IEC JPEG and JBIG Groups. IMTC Leadership Award George Helder, former Vice-Chairman of ITU SG 16 Distinguished career in CCITT and ITU standardization for 34 years, as a delegate of AT&T Bell Labs and later PictureTel,.
