    3. Schedule Class meets on Tuesdays at 4:00 First 1.25 hrs is a lecture, then a short break Rest of the time is for presentations and discussions You will also need to attend some professional practice meetings Reports will generally be due one class after presentations

    4. Required Materials Grigg, Criswell, Fontane and Siller, Civil Engineering Practice in the 21st Century, ASCE Press Vesiland, Public Speaking and Technical Writing Skill for Engineering Students, Lakeshore Press.

    5. Course Objectives Develop design teams and proposals that are professionally acceptable Present and discuss professional practice issues Understand ethics and continued learning requirements Presentation skills Writing skills

    6. Outcomes Prepare an acceptable project proposal Working with others on a team Understand professional practice issues

    7. Grading Prof Practice Problems 40% Class Participation 10% Final Exam 20% Design Project Progress Reports 10% Final Class Project (Pre-design Report) 20%

    8. Homework/Class Projects Homework assignments weekly, due as noted on the syllabus Class Project – Develop a model to evaluate the need and annualized costs to maintain infrastructure – the idea is to be creative given very limited information. Discussion in Class – I will pose questions, some rhetorical, some to challenge your thinking – we want discussion

    9. Expectations All work will be professional Reports are expected to be grammatically correct, clear, concise and free from ambiguity Work will be on time – late work not accepted Presentations are expected to be correct, clear, concise and free from ambiguity There will be 7 presentations – your presentation performance will be a part of your grade

    10. You are encouraged to relax and enjoy the class, there are fun things we will get into!!
