Storm Aftermath • Pepco customer outages reached a peak of 219,800 out of 302,000 total customers (68%) • 195 Feeders Out • 5 Substations Down • 15 – 69kv sub transmission feeders locked out • 330 Traffic Signals Out • Pepco indicates multi-day event • Potomac Water Treatment Plant is without power • Rockville City Water Impacted • 911 Call Volume • FRS 600 (280 average) • Shady Grove Hospital w/o power
Initial Actions • Storm Operation Center Opens Sunday Evening • 311 Center open Sunday Evening • Emergency Operation Center opens 5 am Monday morning • Priority 1 - Preserving life and safety, Damage Assessment, and Addressing Critical Needs • Police staff critical intersections • Police, DOT and Pepco respond to downed trees and power lines • Power Restoration for Priority 1 locations • Fire/Rescue responds to calls for assistance and pre-deploys tankers
Response and Community Notification • Power Restoration for General Public, Tree Removal, Traffic Management, and Sheltering • July 25, 20:17 hours and 23:17 hours – Alert Montgomery message sent updating citizens regarding utilities, County closures, water restrictions and shelters • July 25, 22:31 hours – WSSC issues Mandatory Water Restrictions for Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties • July 25, 23:10 hours – MCPS cancels all activities for Monday July 26. • July 26, 00:00 hours - East County Recreation Center Shelter opens at midnight • Richard Montgomery H.S. launched as special needs shelter with Seneca Valley H.S. launched as general population shelter. • July 26 - Montgomery College Closes Rockville Campus • July 26 - Cancellation of all Montgomery County Parks and Recreation programs and Montgomery County Public School activities for Mon., July 26 • July 26 – Montgomery County Libraries close facilities impacted by power outage
Current Status • As of late afternoon, July 26, water restrictions were lifted and citizens were permitted to resume normal water usage • 107,000 outages as of 8:00 am • All Substations back on line • 57 feeders locked out • 22 Montgomery County Facilities without power • 55 road closures due to downed trees or wires • 130 signals without power • Richard Montgomery open as a shelter for residents • Additional power restoration equipment in place
