Important Info • Fought from April 30 to May 6, 1863. • Battle fought in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, near the village of Chancellorsville. • Union General: Joseph Hooker • Confederate General: Robert E. Lee • Lee won the battle by dividing the confederate army into two parts. • Battle known as Lee’s “perfect battle”. http://www.nndb.com/people/930/000049783/

Important Info Continued • When Lee split the army he left 1/5 of it in Fredericksburg and took the rest to confront the Union’s marching army. • When Hooker figured out that there was more and more confederate resistance he told the troops to concentrate on Chancellorsville. • Stonewall Jackson was mortally wounded on a night attack by one of his own men, so General J.E.B. Stuart took temporary control of Jackson’s Troops. • On May 3, 1863 the Confederates launched an attack and broke the Union line. • On May 4-6 Hooker withdrew this troops to cross the Rappahannock at Banks's Ford.
