  2. Plymouth - 1620 • Colony was settled by separatists from the Church of England who wanted to avoid RELIGIOUS persecution. • Plymouth was settled by the Pilgrims

  3. Plymouth - 1620 The Mayflower The First Thanksgiving

  4. Massachusetts Bay Colony - 1629 • Settled by the PURITANS • Wanted to avoid religious persecution • Wanted to REFORM, or purify, the Church of England. They did not want to totally separate from it.

  6. Pennsylvania - 1670 • Settled by the QUAKERS • Wanted to have freedom to practice their faith without interference
