  3. A Break with England • Declaration of Independence and The Constitution of the United States • Writing that represented the colonists protests of British control • “Free and independent”

  4. The Enlightenment • It questioned previously accepted truths about who should hold power. • It led to a government by the people.

  5. The Great Awakening • A rededication to Puritanism • It provided people with a new found religious enthusiasm.

  6. Consequences of the Enlightenment and the Great Awakening • Both caused people to question traditional authority
