How we worked with Seva Chakkara • First visit in Dec ‘99 by an Asha volunteer. • Feb ‘01 approved support for teacher’s salaries. Working with the project we realized that the basic requirements of food, shelter and health-care needed to be met before education. • May ‘02: Started innovative fund-raiser - Support-A-Child which raises $20,000/year towards basic living expenses, health-care and education.
Continued involvement with Seva Chakkara • Next, we worked with the orphanage on providing a permanent home. • $69,400 was raised through many innovative fundraisers including the marathon program at Austin.
Fundraising • Events are decided and organized by volunteer interest and initiatives. • Support-A-Child program • Events for the Austin Community – Plays, game fairs movie screenings etc. • Marathon Program is the biggest fundraiser and is the backbone – raised $80K in the last 2 years • The requirements keep growing and we need help!
