Agenda 01/18/2013 Sponge Objective: Applying Movement and Place Intro: Movement and Place Modeling: Added information to StephensLand Independent Practice: Add Movement and Place your own country Review: Review Movement and Place Exit Ticket
Sponge Describe where you would like to go on vacation. Use Physical Geography and Cultural Geography to describe this place. • I am collecting this for a grade • Write in complete sentences • Include the question and today’s date
Sponge Answer • Sample Answer: • (Physical Geography) Iwould love to go to the Bahamas for my summer vacation. I would love to visit this part of the world because the weather is perfect down there. It is always hot and there is a beautiful ocean everywhere you look. • (Cultural Geography) I would also love to go to the Bahamas because they have a few really cool cities to visit. You can go dancing at night, and eat as much sea food as you can eat! I would also like to visit because the population density is very low in some areas, so I can be alone for some down time as well.

Example • LOCATION: • Absolute: StephensLand is located at 23.5 degrees north and 13.8 degrees west. • Relative: StephensLand is off the coast of Australia and north of Antartica.
Example: Place Dear Tina, I have just returned from StephensLand! I had the best time ever because there are so many places to visit. The climate was tropical, but it did rain a lot while I was there. There is a huge seafood industry there, so I got to eat as much lobster as I could fit in my belly. You know I love my Seafood! I also met some really nice people who lived by the Water Fall of Magic. They showed me how to fish from the banks of the Water Fall pools. I also got to visit the Dessert of Solitude, but I wouldn’t recommend going there…. Nothing but sand. You should come visit someday! Love, Betsy
Movement • The people of StephensLand can travel across the country by boat, car or train. • The internet does not exist there, so people must write letters to each other in order to communicate with people who live far away. • They import a lot of food from Australia, but they also export a lot of seafood as well. Most of this happens via boat.
Exit Ticket: Will count as a quiz grade • In your own words, explain the terms Physical Geography and Cultural Geography. • Provide examples for each term listed above. 3) Explain how physical geography can affect cultural geography. (Provide an example)
