Current Initiatives • Supporting and providing leadership including technical backstopping in the development and validation of the CAADP Pillar 1 framework • Participation in the SLWM integration in the country and regional CAADP roundtables and programme implementation processes • Evolving a pool of knowledge and experts (available and accessible to the RECs and Country institutions spearheading planning and implementation of SLM programmes within the CAADP framework) CAADP
Role and activity sharing between University of Zambia (UNZA) and Permanent Interstate Committee in the Sahel (CILSS) as lead institutions - programming • Building Capacity within the lead institution Centre of excellence in SLM/NRM (answer researchable questions on SLM implementation, resource centre …) CAADP
Pillar 1 Framework document development • Draft document available for comments • Widely circulated for technical review and comments -comments and responses coming in… • Review and validation by Expert Reference Group (ERG) scheduled for 2-3rd April 2009 in Lusaka, Zambia • FAO providing support and expertise on alignment to TerrAfrica CAADP
Other SLWM initiatives • Development of flagship project scaling up conservation agriculture (CA) in sub Saharan Africa (concept document in progress) • Experience sharing with Chinese GEF funded project on Land degradation control (planned exchange visits by Chinese delegation, June 2009) • Participation climate vulnerability and climate change: document preparation towards COP 15 (mitigation/adaptation strategies)
Participation in Country RoundTables processes so that SLM issues are well articulated • Establishment of SLM Networks of individual experts and institutions –building African capacity CAADP
