Past Conditions • Conditions Rapidly Deteriorating today • Burrwood NOAA C-man - East 100kt gust 120 kt • New Orleans Armstrong Int’l Airport • NE 60 kt gust 85 kt in squall , 5 inches of rain today. • Tides 6 to 10 feet above normal east side of Plaquemines and St. Bernard Parishes. • Tides 8 to 10 feet above normal at Grand Isle. • Tides 6 to 9 feet above normal in Lake Pontchartrain. • F2 tornadoes occurred in Slidell near Camp Villere and in Kentwood.

  3. Conditions Expected Tonight • Most extreme weather conditions will occur during over night hours • Winds of 100 to 120 mph likely. • Peak values of storm surge will occur • Widespread life threatening storm surge flooding likely with overtopping of levees possible. • Tornadoes likely.

  8. Inland Winds • Hurricane Force Wind (>74 mph) as far north as Baton Rouge • 50-74 mph Winds possible as far inland Alexandria area • Tropical Storm Force Winds possible extreme northeast LA

  9. Storm Surge Potential • SLOSH Model • Worst Case Scenario at Each Location • Category 3 Hurricane moving NNW 5 mph – with high tide option. • 14 to 17 ft storm surge with locally higher values • Potential to overtop most levees

Heavy Rain and Tornado Hazard • Heavy Rainfall • Squalls with heavy rain have overspread area. • Due to slow forward speed…rainfall of 12 to 16 inches likely. • Flood Watch in effect for tonight and Tuesday. • Tornadoes • Tornado threat will continue tonight and Tuesday as rainbands spread over southeast Louisiana.
