E N D
INTRODUCTION Welcome to The Roaring Twenties: A Glamorous Party-Filled Decade! You are part of a team that has been hired to explore the 1920's in order to plan a party representative of the decade for a wealthy writer and his friends. You will be transported back in time to the roaring twenties in order to create your party.
THE TASK You have been hired to plan a party for author F. Scott Fitzgerald. You and your group must research different aspects of life in the 1920’s and plan a fun, and accurate party for Mr. Fitzgerald and his friends. The group that plans the best party will receive extra compensation (i.e. extra credit)
THE TASK - continued • Each group member will be required to research one topic and fill out the corresponding worksheet. • After all research is done, the group will come together to develop a powerpoint presentation describing their party plans. • Presentations must be 5-8 minutes and will be given on Thursday, September 26th
THE PROCESS Stage 1: • As a team, decide which team member will be responsible for each section of the research. The areas which need to be researched include: fashion, entertainment, dining/decorations, and interests. • You are not limited to the links that have been provided. Feel free to do some research on your own. Remember--not all sites are credible!
Fashion: Your job is to research the history of fashion in the 1920's. This includes men and women's clothing, accessories, hair styles, and facial hair styles. Feel free to include information that is not asked for on the fashion sheet. PROCESS Stage 2 • Now that you have completed your individual component, it is time to compile your information in the format of a poster or PowerPoint presentation. This poster/PowerPoint will be presented to the entire corporation to be voted upon before it is presented to Mr. Fitzgerald. Do remember that Mr. Fitzgerald is a wealthy man who enjoys excitement. Above all, this party must be modern (not 2007 modern, 1920's modern). Please include a list of activities that your guests might engage in, what they are to wear, which foods will be served, and the type of entertainment to be provided. Choose a date and time for your party--a Saturday evening party might be quite different from a Tuesday afternoon party. Calendar - USA - 1924
PROCESS THE POWERPOINT MUST INCLUDE: • 15-20 images (photos, clip art, drawings, etc.) • description of each image chosen • date and time of the party • list of food items/menu (minimum of 3 appetizers, 3 main course options, and 3 desserts) • list of entertainment options (minimum of 3 items) • list of conversational tidbits (minimum of 5 items) • list of clothing/accessories to be worn (minimum of 6 items--3 for men, 3 for women) YOU MAY WORK TOGETHER TO COMPLETE THE LISTS
PROCESS Above all, be creative! Feel free to experiment with themes, symbols, colors, etc. The more unique, the better because Mr. Fitzgerald wants many options available to him. If you would like to bring in food samples, clothing samples, engage in a small demonstration, etc., run it past me first. Have fun and be creative!
PROCESS Stage 3 • You are now ready to prepare your presentation. You are trying to persuade your colleagues to vote for your presentation. Getting colleagues to vote for you means more business for you and your team and the potential to receive additional compensation from the boss. Your presentation should be brief: you only have four to five minutes to present your powerpoint to the other teams; make sure you are concise and use appropriate word choice. Be sure to rehearse the presentation before you get up in front of your colleagues; you do not want to make a complete fool out of yourself unless you know it will enhance your presentation. Good Luck!
