Taiga by Kelvin Moore Eduardo Adriana
Location • The word Taiga means “marshy pine forest” in Russian. The Taiga biome is home to the most beautiful and most clean forest in the world. Taiga can be found in many different areas of the Northern Hemisphere. The two main areas are Canada, and Russia.
Physical Features • Taiga is a big an seemingly homogeneous. Archers and Acers of the exact same tree species of the ten tree spices. The lack of diversity , is peaty amazing. Especially when compared to other Biomes such as the rain forest.
Plant life • Some plants in Taiga are the Black Spruce which can grow to be 25 meters tall, another one is the Siberian Spruce that can grow to be 30 meters tall, and White Fir which can grow to be 60-100 meters tall! In comparison to each other they look the same.
Animal Life • One Taiga animal is the American Black Bear, the Bald Eagle, Bob Cat, Grey Wolf, Long Eared Owl, Red Fox, and the Snowshoe Rabbit. Some animals are cold animals like, the Snowshoe Rabbit, Red fox, Grey Wolf, and Long Eared Owl.
Interesting Facts • The taiga is prone to wildfires. Because of this, many trees have adapted to this by growing thick bark, which can protect the tree from a mild fire. • Because of cold temperatures, decomposition is slow in the taiga. Dead vegetation will pile up on the forest floor, making a sponge-like covering. • Since decomposition is slow, the soil is thin, and lacking in nutrients. • Trees grow taller where the taiga is warmer (so things can decay) or by a stream, where the water can carry nutrients to the tree.
