  2. Initial Proposal to City Council Denied! Brad Lindberg Staff Writer write the author May 16, 2013 CITY OF GROSSE POINTE — A divided city council this week denied a key element of St. John Providence Health System's $5.4 million proposal to establish medical offices in the former Borders Books & Music building in the Village.

  4. IT’S UNANIMOUS! ON 9-16-13 THE GROSSE POINTE CITY COUNCIL APPROVED SJPH’S PLAN TO DEVELOP THE VACANT BORDERS BUILDING IN THE VILLAGE OF GROSSE POINTE WITH A 7-0 VOTE • Sent on behalf of the Grosse Pointe Ambulatory Center Planning Committee • It’s unanimous! On Monday, September 16, the Grosse Pointe City Council approved St. John Providence Health System’s plan to develop the vacant Borders building in The Village of Grosse Pointe with a 7-0 vote. • The approved site plan represents months of work, and is a compromise that fits both the City Council’s vision for The Village, and SJP’s desire to provide convenient access to outpatient services. The 18,000 square feet building will be an approximate 50/50 split between retail and medical, with SJP as the landlord for the retail frontage, which could include between one and three retailers. In the rear of the building (but with access via Kercheval), SJP plans to provide primary medical care with an internal medicine physician group, a lab draw station, imaging services (mammography, ultrasound, X-ray, and bone densitometry), and physical therapy. • We are very pleased with the Council’s willingness to work with us, and for welcoming us to The Village. The path to this approval was complicated, and we are thankful for the City Council and Administration’s flexibility and creativity towards finding a suitable solution. • Corporate Real Estate will now complete the purchase of the building, followed by approximately 90 days of design and construction planning. We have already begun working with our retail property broker to find high-quality businesses for the retail space. The new site will open in the Summer of 2014. • We will keep you updated on the progress, and will post the renderings on www.sjptheloop.com (look in the photo gallery) and on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/stjohnprovidence within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact one of the Planning Committee members below: • Dave Brooks, President, SJH&MC • Frank Poma, President, SJRDH and East Region Cardiology • Bob Hoban, President, Care Continuum, SJPHS • Richard Abbott, Director, Corporate Real Estate/Design and Construction, SJPHS • Tomasine Marx, Chief Financial Officer, East Region, SJPHS • Scott Smith, Chief Development Officer, SJPHS Foundations East Region • Sara Brown, Marketing, SJH&MC and affiliated campuses
