In order to prepare for my college and career goalsAt the end of today I will be able to • Locate the Course Registration Information on the Counseling Website • Understand the registration process for 2019-2020 • Identify Morton West graduation requirements • Identify college admission requirements • Use Career Cruising to complete my 4 year plan.

Before we get on career cruising • Prepare for college and your career by choosing classes that support your goals • Discuss AP with your teachers, counselor and parents/guardians • Attend the ELECTIVE FAIR on Wednesday December 12th during your lunch/supervisory • Research college entrance requirements • Morton West Counseling Website: Registration Tab overview https://il01904869.schoolwires.net/Domain/167

Graduation requirements vs college admission requirements GRADUATION COLLEGE English 4 years 4 years Math 3 years 3 years (4 recommended) Science 2 years 3 years Social Science 2 years 3 years Foreign Language* 2 years 2 years** OR Fine Art* or CTE*1 year 1 or 2 years** *You need one of those 3 options **Some universities do NOT require language, check specific colleges for requirements

Why take ap? • Potential for college credit. • A 3 or higher will automatically get you credit at Illinois Schools • Stand out during admissions • Prepare now to succeed in college • Increase you chances of earning scholarships • Increase your chance of graduating from college • AP courses available sophomore year: • AP European History • AP Computer Science

  6. Course requests for 2019-2020 This form will be sent home during finals week along with the 6th class option (0 hour) form and a copy of elective choices. You will return this form filled out and signed by a parent during your individual registration meeting with your counselor. January 22-25, 2019 During your individual registration meeting with your counselor you will review this form and ensure you have the correct courses needed for graduation and post high school plans. The courses will be recorded at West and a copy will go home to you and your parent. If you choose to have a 0 hour, you will receive the 6th class option form which MUST be returned by FEBRUARY 1st.

  7. 6th class option form (0 hour) This MUST be returned by FEBRUARY 1st, 2019. It will be mailed home before Winter Break. You can grab a copy today if you know you want a 6th class next year.

  8. Elective course options2019-2020 THIS IS BEING UPDATED ____________________________________ * Indicates a course has a prerequisite that must be met. This is especially important for math courses. ____________________________________ # Indicates a course that can earn duel credit. ____________________________________ BOLD courses are offered for one semester only. If you want to create a full year course you need to choose 2 of them. One of these courses will go the opposite semester of civics.

English Math Science PE Elective When you click on the box it will give you class options available for that subject BOTTOM PICTURE For electives you choose the area This is example is Visual Arts If a specific class has a little paperclip icon on the far right side you can see a video explaining what you do in that elective

  13. Career cruising adding courses Choose at least 5 courses for grade 10. If you want a 0 hour course choose 6 courses. At the bottom you will see your credit total.(circled in red) You need to have at least 5 credits at the bottom to have a complete schedule for sophomore year. Career cruising saves automatically so you do not have to hit submit or it will lock you out of the system and you need to see your counselor to unlock it.
