  3. Declarative • Makes a statement of “fact.” • At its peak, a growing blue whale gains between 200 and 300 pounds a day.

  4. Spelling tip: • Declarative, not declaritive. • Think about a Southern belle named Clara declaring, ”I do declare, women blink nearly twice as much as men.”

  5. Declarative sentences end with a period.

  6. Interrogative •  Asks a question • Did you know that the bite of a King Cobra can kill a fully-grown elephant is less than three hours? Yikes!

  7. Spelling Tip:If you are being interrogated, chances are that you will be angry and upset about that. You’d probably want to say, “Grrrr…” • Interrogative has two r’s. Think “Grrr…”

  8. Interrogative statements take a question mark.

  9. Imperative • Imperative sentences make a command or request. They tell the reader or listener to do something. • “Look under your chair for an index card with a star. Ignore the gum.” Remember: If someone commands you to do something, it is important. IMPERATIVE = IMPORTANT

  10. Exclamatory • Exclamatory sentences show strong emotion. You won!

  11. Exclamatory sentences end with an exclamation mark.
