Official Graduation Dates • Boston University has three official graduation dates: • May (date changes each year) • September 25th • January 25th
Sign-out • Dr. Jones will be emailing tentative graduates the details related to sign-out. • Directions on how to utilize electronic sign-out system on SPS will be sent shortly there after (IL) • You should be actively checking SPS to see which signatures you have already obtained as well as completing any work necessary to receive the remaining signatures.
If you sign out BY5/20/12 you are eligible for a: • May 20, 2012 Diploma • Letter of Graduation which states your official graduation date and degree conferred. • Official Final Transcript which includes your final grades, your official graduation date and degree conferred.
If you complete the sign out process BETWEEN5/21/12 and 8/31/12 you are immediately eligible for a: • Letter of Completion which states the date you completed the necessary requirements for the degree which will be conferred on September 25th • Official transcript can only include your final grades. (No degree or conferral date)
If you complete sign-out BETWEEN: 5/21/12 & 8/31/12 you will receive: • September 25th, 2012 diploma • The diploma company mails your diploma to the address you entered on the student link. This process could take several weeks).
On or After 9/25/2012 you can request : An official final transcript which states your official graduation date and degree conferred
License and Board Applications • Please read all materials/instructions carefully prior to submitting the application and fee. All states do not have the same license requirements and some states will not accept a “Letter of Completion” as proof of graduation. • Some states will only take an official final transcript with the degree and graduation date on it. If you sign out by May 20th, 2012, your transcript will indicate a May 20th, 2012graduation date.
License and Board Applications • If you sign out after May 20th, 2012, an official final transcript (indicating date of graduation and degree) can only be issued on or after September 25th, 2012. You can receive an official transcript at any time , but you can only be issued an official final transcript with your graduation date and degree on or after September 25th, 2012.
State Licensing Boards • In order to obtain a license, the following states have historically required official final transcripts with the date of graduation and degree awarded posted on it and will NOT accept a “Certificate of Completion”: • Connecticut • Georgia • Illinois • Michigan • North Carolina • Nevada • Texas • Vermont • Virginia • Washington • Pennsylvania This is not a complete or official list.
Graduation Programs 1) All University Commencement Program: “The Red Book” 2) BUGSDM Commencement Ceremony Program • Both of the above programs will reflect your name and previous degrees as it appears on the student link as of March 15th, 2012. • Your name will appear in both programs whether you are a May, September or January graduate, unless you have restricted your data on the student link.
Health Insurance • If you are currently enrolled in the AETNA student health plan, then your coverage officially ends on August 31st, 2012.
Disability Insurance • All DMD and Advanced Standing students are currently enrolled in a student disability insurance plan. • When you graduate, you are entitled to convert your coverage to an individual non-cancelable policy w/out medical underwriting. • Details are located on the Office of the Registrar’s web site.
Are you coming to the Dental School’s Graduation? • Please notify Ms. Lindsay Corrigan in the Office of Event and Meeting Planning if you will be unable to attend the graduation ceremony. She is located in Robinson’s Bldg. 72 East Concord St., room B-341. Her e-mail address is lindsayc@bu.edu
