  2. What are Hurricanes? • Large tropical storms with heavy winds. • 74 miles per hour winds and areas with rainfall. • The ocean water has to be 79 degrees F in order for a hurricane generated. • They are faster than a cheetah, the fastest land animal.

  3. What conditions cause Hurricanes? • Warm water and moist air. • When a hurricane performs it can cause damaging winds and heavy rain. • Low pressure areas that form over warm water oceans in the summer and early fall.

  4. How long does a Hurricane last? • Usually one week others can last up to 12 days.

  5. When does it happen? • Starts June 1 and lasts through November 30. • In the Northeast Pacific it lasts a little longer than usual. • They mostly occur in the hottest months May 15 through November 30.

  6. What kind of damage to property can a Hurricane do? • Damaging winds • Heavy rains • Lighting and Thundering usually occurs.

  7. Interesting facts about Hurricanes! • Hurricanes are the only weather disasters that have been given their own names. • A typical Hurricane can dump 6 inches to a foot of rain across a region. • Many Hurricanes cause severe flooding.
