To learn the benefits of physical activities To increase each students level of physical fitness To learn a variety of activities, skills and sports that will help students stay active for a lifetime. Have Fun!

  2. Early arrival procedures • 1.) come in and sit down quietly – • 2.) once you come in the gym you must stay in the gym until: • 8:00 am at which time you can only leave if you are going to go to breakfast. • If you are going to breakfast you must leave at 8:00 or you forfeit breakfast for that day. • 8:10 go to your first class – Mr. Kohut will say have a “GREAT DAY” and then it is time to leave -

  3. GYM RULES AND PROCEDURES .

  4. 1.The Five Rule means when a teacher raises his/her hand • A. Be quiet • B. Listen • C. Hands free • D. Be still • E. Eyes on speaker

  5. 2. No talking - • A. While in your warm-up spot (squad) • B. While the coach is talking • C. During announcements

  6. 3. You must be dressed out (7th and 8th graders and in your spot within four minutes) in the following: • A. Tennis shoes • B. Gym Shorts (at least knee high) or sweat pants. • C. Tee shirt and/or sweat shirt • D. Dressing out is being personally responsible. • E. If one is dressed out they may have to do an alternative activity. • PE Uniforms are available for a $3.50 PE fee. Uniforms that are lost, stolen or damaged uniform parts will be assessed a replacement fee: $10.00 for shorts and $10.00 for the T-shirt.

  7. 4. Dress out for 6th graders: • A. Must wear tennis shoes • B. Clothing that you can do physical activities in • C. You have one minute to change your shoes and be in your spot/squad • D. Inappropriate attire/clothing may result in an alternative activity and is part of your personal responsibility grade.

  8. 5. Horseplay: • A. No playing around in gym or locker room. • B. No loud or unnecessary talking or screaming • C. Weight room is off limits without a teacher • D. After class has begun, locker rooms are off limits without permission. • If you horse play, break a gym or school rule in the locker room you will lose your locker room privileges and be subject to all other possible disciplinary actions!

  9. 6. Locker room rules: • A. Locker rooms to be used for dress out (7th and 8th graders) and rest room purposes only • B. Sixth graders are allowed in the locker room only after permission has been given. • C. Remember!!! Horse play and unnecessary noises will terminate a student’s locker room privileges

  10. 7. Lockers and locks: • A. Students are responsible for using their lockers and locks to secure personal items • B. Do not bring valuables to the gym. All valuables should be left in lockers in main building! • C. Not using your locker and lock will leave your personal items to theft or vandalism. • D. Never give your lock combination to anyone.

  11. 8. Tardies: • A. You should be in your spot in 4 minutes after dressing out. • B. If you are not dressing out you must be in your spot at the beginning of class and the locker rooms will be off limits for these students. • C. Being in the locker room or vestibule are not considered being in the gym. • D. In all cases you should sit down quietly and quickly – You should always hustle to your spot particularly if you are late.

  12. 9. Be a good sport means: • A. Play by the rules of the game • B. Controlling your temper • C. Treating others fairly • D. Sharing with teammates

  13. 10. Think safety means: • A. To anticipate the consequences of your actions

  14. 11. To enter and leave the gym appropriately: • A. You should be quiet • B. You walk to and from the gym • C. Sit down in your spot as soon as you are suited up (if you are not dressed out, locker rooms are off limits) • D. No loud screaming or running

  15. 12.) THE FOLLOWING ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE GYM: • A.) GUM • B.) CANDY • C.) SODAS • D.) FOOD

  16. 13.) TO BE RESPECTFUL TO OTHERS MEANS: • A.)TREAT OTHERS AS YOU WOULD WANT TO BE TREATED. • B.)BE KIND AND COURTEOUS TO FELLOW STUDENTS AND ADULTS. • C.) USE APPROPRAITE LANGUAGE • D.) IF YOU DON’T HAVE ANYTHING NICE TO SAY, DON’T SAY IT AT ALL! • E.) STUDENTS THAT ARE NOT RESPECTFUL TO OTHERS WILL BE GIVEN IN GYM TIME OUT and will more than likely be given a D-1.

  17. 14.) WHEN THE WHISTLE BLOWS, THE INTERCOM SOUNDS OR THE COACH SAYS READY POSITION! YOU SHOULD: • A.) FREEZE • B.) HOLD THE BALL • C.) STAND IN THE READY POSITION • D.)WAIT FOR INSTRUCTIONS

  18. 15.) NO EXCUSES! EXCUSES WILL NOT BE EXCEPTED UNLESS: • A.) IT IS FROM A PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN. • B.) IT IS FROM A TEACHER. • C.) IT IS FROM A DOCTOR. • D.) YOU ARE SICK THAT DAY AND BRING IN A NOTE THE NEXT DAY WE HAVE CLASS.

  19. 6th Grade Physical EducationClassroom Procedures • 1.) Walk into the gym quietly and put your tennis shoes on. • 2.) Put your belongings in the designated area (please remember to leave your valuables in your locker in the main building) • 3.) Do the warm-up to the best of your ability • 4.) Do your best in the activity and play by the rules • 5.) At the end of class sit back in your spot and do the cool down.

  20. 7th & 8th grade Physical Education Procedures • 1.) Walk into the gym quietly and go to the locker room and dress out. You have 4 minutes to do this and be sitting in your spot quietly. If your are not suiting up you are not allowed in the locker room at any time and should be in your spot immediately upon entering the gym. • 2.) Do the warm-up to the best of your ability. • 3.) Do your best in the activity and play by the rules. • 4.) At the end of class sit back in your spot and do the cool down. Those suited up will be given 4 minutes to dress back out while the other remain in their spots.

  21. Gymnastic Focus Gym Procedures • 1.) Walk into the gym quietly and go to the locker room and suit up. • 2.) Help set up mats and sit down on your mat in a straddle • 3.) TRY your best at all the exercises and skills. • 4.) Put up your mats and stand at attention on the black line to wait for dismissal and reflections. • 5.) Dress back out quietly and sit down on the blue bench.

  22. How to get an “A” in PE Grading Procedures • 1.) 40% - Personal and Social Responsibility • 2.) 40% - In class skill performance • 3.) 20% - Skills test

  23. 40% Personal and Social Responsibility • being on time; • bringing appropriate wear; • utilization of safety equipment and appropriate wear; • following procedures for safety, warm-ups, drills, circuits and class assignments; • helping and encouraging others; • sharing and taking care of equipment; • appreciating differences of others.

  24. 40% In class skill performance • This grade will be based on the quality and percentage of the daily in class assignments. • This could be the number of attempts at a skill, drill or exercise. • The quality and technique of the performance will also be assessed. • Individual assessments will be based on the initial level of proficiency and eventual improvement.

  25. 20% SKILLS TEST These will be written and practical assessments on the students’ knowledge and skill level.

  26. Gymnasts only • Performances: Gymnast will be required to do performances. • These performances and there practices will effect the students grade in all three areas above. • Students that do not do these performances will fail the class.

  27. BONUS POINTS AND ACTIVITY DAY • BONUS POINTS WILL BE GIVEN FOR EXTRA EFFORT. This may include being helpful to others or showing character traits of a successful person by being kind and respectuful. • ACTIVITY DAY: This is an award day. Once a month we will have open gym where you can choose from a variety of activities . Students that have not been cooperating will not participate. Student will be given a written assignment on this day.
