Manage Project Scope On completion of this unit you will – • be able to determine and control the end products of the project, and the processes to develop them • be able to consult with stakeholders and apply tools and techniques to manage development of the project scope activities, including project objectives, deliverables, constraints and assumptions • This unit is Ungraded which means that you will be found Competent or Not Yet Competent based on the completion of the assessment activities and the evidence of competency provided.
Elements of Competency • Each unit of study is composed of elements of competency • Manage Project Scope comprises 3 elements of competency – • Conduct project authorisation activities • Conduct project scope definition activities • Manage application of scope controls • Elements of competency are further broken down into performance criteria, these can be found on the next slides
1. Conduct Project Authorisation Activities • Project authorisation is confirmed with a higher authority as the basis for future project management activity and commitment of resources and effort • This includes assigning responsibilities for Change Control and decision making with respect to material changes to Time, Cost and Scope. • This is commonly performed in conjunction with Project Integration Management • The Project Charter is the initial document which authorises the start of a project, this is performed as part of Project Integration Management
2. Conduct Project Scope Definition Activities • Project objectives, deliverables, constraints and assumptions and principal work activities are identified with guidance of a higher project authority and agreed between the project team and the client • Designated measurable project benefits and outcomes are established to enable quantified evaluation of project performance • Scope management plan is developed and implemented
3. Manage Application of Scope Controls Agreed scope management procedures and processes are implemented The impact of scope changes is managed within established time, cost and quality constraints according to change control procedures and to meet project objectives Progress is reviewed and results recorded to assess the effectiveness of scope management procedures
