AMI TABLE TOP MODEL Electric Loads: one load powered by solar, the other thru the grid DCX Communication Module (on Nextel network) GE kV2c Bi-directional Electric Meter Programming software (MeterMate), data acquisition, and monitoring website (load control) Solar Panel (output 16V-DC) to provide power to one of the loads Battery, Inverter (DC-AC), and Load Distributer Utility ORB – to be added to Table Top. Announcement of high-demand event by varying colors Programmable Control Thermostat (PCT) – to be added. Remote setting-control of thermostats for some customers during high demand
TRIAL OF MEDIATOR TECHNOLOGY IN ROTA The use of mediator technology in AMI will be evaluated at Naval Base Rota The mediator can be used as a bridge between various protocols Home Area Network (HAN): several building applications (i.e. smart lighting, advanced temperature control…) can be controlled/monitored through meters Mechanical meters can also pass metering data to electric meters, so the DAS only communicates with electric meters Home Area Network (HAN) connection to devices connection to networks Cisco Network Building Mediator
PARTNERSHIP WITH UTILITIES ON COMMON GOALS Meetings have been held between the Navy and utilities such as Southern California Edison, San Diego Gas and Electric, and ENDESA, Spain Partnership necessary to arrange ongoing Navy AMI effort, share lessons learned, and participate in utilities’ demand response and Smart Grid projects SCE to assist NAVFAC ESC in demand response programs; and Endesa to work with Navy on HAN and Smart Grid implementations Partnership will also be evaluated with Google PowerMeter program, NIST Smart Grid effort, and similar initiatives
