  2. The Sports Capital Programme is the main channel of Government support for developing sports facilities and purchasing sports equipment for sports clubs and organisations across Ireland.

  3. Aims • Support counties to develop high quality, safe, well designed, sustainable facilities in appropriate locations. • Provide appropriate equipment to help maximise participation in sport and physical recreation. • Prioritise the needs of disadvantaged areas in the provision of sports facilities. • Encourage the multi-purpose use of facilities by clubs, community organisations and NGB’s of sport.

  4. Deadlines for applications • Online applications and those made in Irish (+ a hard copy of the signed application and all supporting documentation) – 5pm Friday 1st June. • Paper based applications (+ all supporting documentation) – 5pm Friday 11th May. • LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. • Application forms available from www.sportscapitalprogramme.ie

  5. *Extra points awarded* • Disadvantaged Areas – RAPID/CLAR • Promoting female participation in sport • Increasing overall participation in sport • Increasing participation of persons with a disability –accessible facilities. • Local linkages – e.g. • School/club link • Community/club link • Multiple sports club application • Surplus ‘own funding’ requirement

  9. 3.Contact details • Primary and post primary schools may only apply for funding jointly with local sports clubs or community groups and must adhere to criteria set out in Section 2 of the guidelines.

Previous grants recieved • Examples: • Sports capital programme • Dormant accounts • Peace and reconcilliation • CLAR / Leader community initiatives • Young peoples facilities services fund • Local sports partnership • Dept. Education and skills • Dept. Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht • International fund for Ireland (IFI)

Details of proposed projects and costs • See examples of what the fund covers – page 8 of guidelines. • NB – describe in detail how your proposed project will increase participation numbers in physical activity and sport. • NB – specifically if targeting disadvantaged areas / female participation. • NB – how will your project be accessible? • NB – how will your project improve performance? • Targets to be specific, measureable and achievable.

  12. 5… continued • Priority costings • 3 overall costings for the project and 3 costings for each of the elements separately. (you may not get funding for all, therefore it is important to indiviudally cost and clearly prioritise these in your application)

  13. 6. Funding • How much are you applying for? (project must be realistic in terms of scale, costs and grant assistance sought) • Minimum own funding: • Non-disadvantaged area -15% of the total cost of project • CLÁR (disadvantaged rural area)-10% of the total cost of project • RAPID (disadvantaged urban area)-5% of the total cost of project • Regional or national -Depends on the scale of the project *Extra marks awarded for higher levels of own funding*

  14. 7. Timeframe of the project • NB to state how the project will be accessible. • Does the facility need planning permission?

  15. 8.Site details • State other facilities that are currently on site • Deed of covenant

  16. 9. Use of your facilities • 9.3 – highlight disadvantaged communities, female participation, people with disabilities etc. • Support letter from NGB on need for facility may be beneficial.

  17. 10. Managing the Facility • Business plan document outlining management of facility, managing costs, running programmes/initiatives to increase participation. • Include management policies on staff, opening hours, social inclusion policies etc.

  18. 11. Encouraging disadvantaged groups and people to use your facilties. • How will this happen? • What initiatives will you put in place to ensure this? Detail target numbers. • Detail targeting unemployed persons (lower cost access) and how this will be done. • Detail for targeting other disadvantaged groups to include groups with low physical activity participation rates. (Female, older adults, people with disabilities.)
