Guiding Principles Beliefs, School Character Points, & Values All students can and will achieve at their highest academic levels Instruction must be relevant, authentic, creative and engaging A qualified, motivated, committed staff is essential for a successful learning environment Students gain necessary skills when actively engaged in learning that is rich in content and involves problem solving skills that produce quality work A partnership between the school, parents, and community leads to the promotion of successful student learning Setting challenging expectations leads to increased student performance Positive relationships and mutual respect between staff and students are essential in the promotion of students’ self-esteem Education is a lifelong learning process

    3. Vision Wooddale Middle School will exist as an educational institution dedicated to equipping successive generations of adolescent students with knowledge and skills to academically and socially participate and compete in the society of their time.

    6. Goals and/or Objectives Decrease the number of students cutting class by 25% Decrease disruptive behavior/continuous misconduct office referrals by 25% Decrease excessive tardiness to school by 35% Increase our Fight Free Days by 25%

    7. MCS Discipline Committee Worksheet 2009-2010 Name of School: Wooddale Middle Discipline Committee is representative of the school faculty and includes an administrator. Fill in the names of committee members and designate a Team Leader (TL) *Indicates members mandated by MEA contract

Discipline Committee In order for this SWPBS committee to function properly, the following will be incorporated: Each member will have class coverage during meeting times (if needed) A designated meeting place and time will be established and members will be assigned leadership roles and responsibilities. Assistant Principal, Dr. W. Tobias, is responsible for accessing and distributing to the committee the data from the Compstat website

Do your best. Soar above the rest! Seek first to understand and then to be understood. Give Respect At All Times Wooddale Middle School is home away from home, so we must keep our school clean. Treat all people the way they want to be treated (i.e., only use positive language) Lead by Example We are scholars at Wooddale, which means we must dress the part (i.e., shirts tucked in. Pants will be at waist level. Skirts and shorts at knee length) Engage in Learning Come to school everyday! Actively Participate in all classes Come to school prepared with paper, writing instruments, and other necessary supplies

    12. How we teach the rules and procedures During the first weeks of school, teachers were encouraged to model and teach procedures in context. Our student handbook was taught and modeled for all students by homeroom teachers. The handbook is also posted online on our school webpage and parents and students have access to it via the internet.

    18. Sexual Harassment Guidance Counselors address each grade level in regularly scheduled meetings to review the Memphis City School Board Policies as it relates to sexual harassment. Administrators and counselors work in conjunction to investigate and adjudicate all cases involving alleged sexual harassment. WMS goal is to decrease all such incidents during this school year through ongoing counselor meetings and holding high expectations for all students.

    19. Bullying Prevention Training with faculty regarding prevention including defining bullying/intimidation, recognizing early stages, providing strategies for addressing. Training will be administered by the guidance department during a faculty meeting each semester. Training of students will be administered by the guidance department during their monthly discussions with individual teams during their Social Studies class period.

    20. School Safety Plan School Multi-Hazard plan was submitted on September 19, 2009. The primary person responsible for the multi-hazard plan is Dr. W. Tobias Fire Drills are scheduled monthly both am and pm Plan will be reviewed and updated as needed
