Vision • By empowering our students to learn, Kingsbury High School hopes to instill in all students the ability to achieve their dreams, to work responsibly and ethically, to respect individual and cultural differences, and to adapt, through continued learning, to the many occupational and technological challenges of the 21st century. Mission • The faculty at Kingsbury High School is dedicated to student development. We work to increase the intellectual capacity of all students while affirming their right to learn, focusing on a benchmark of a minimum of 90% proficient on all state and federal summative assessments, with a minimum of 60% of students placing advanced. Philosophy Statement • Our every decision and action regarding discipline must be aligned to our mission. • We have the opportunity and responsibility to help students develop self-discipline. • Self-discipline is at the heart of the development of strong character and an enthusiasm for learning. Principal should identify person responsible for entering behavior data. Monitoring Process • Using KHS data, the Discipline Team will continuously monitor and assess the Discipline Plan. Revisions will be reviewed and approved by two thirds majority of the faculty at the beginning of each year. Teaching Behavioral Expectations Define the expectation: Always be respectful Provide a rationale: Differences make us unique Teach the critical discrimination : • Appropriate behavior would include respecting the cultural diversity that makes Kingsbury High School unique. • Inappropriate behavior would include teasing and ridicule the cultural differences within the student body and faculty Teach for fluency: How will this skill be maintained? Students will participate in a cultural diversity fair held at the school to increase the knowledge of the cultural difference of Kingsbury High. School Procedures • Students report to class at 7:00 a.m. • Students must exit the building at 3:00 p.m. • Students participating in after-school activities must be in place at 3:15 p.m. and have arranged transportation home. • High school students have five minutes to change classes during which time they are to use the restroom, drink water, and go to lockers. • Students must eat during assigned lunch period • Students in halls during class must have a pass Revised 7/10
Classroom Procedures • Students must follow all school rules in the classroom • Students must follow procedures posted in classrooms • Students must attend scheduled classes unless given written permission to attend another class • Hall passes are not to be given until 15 minutes after class period begins and not within 15 minutes before class period ends • Only one student per pass • Students unable to locate a class for any reason should report to the school office for instructions Revised 7/11
School-wide Incentives • School-wide incentives will be given each 20-day reporting period as documented by homeroom teachers and discipline secretary: • Teachers will reward students with verbal praise to acknowledge positive student behavior. • Students could also receive rewards such as entry to athletic events, concession stand rewards, homework passes, name placed in drawing for prizes, etc.
Teacher Incentives • Procedures for recognizing and encouraging positive teacher interaction are: • Attendance prizes at faculty meetings • Teacher of the month recognition with designated parking • Drawing for prizes (tickets given to students may also have teacher name, so when student gets prize, so does teacher who gave the reinforcement) • Lunch card to certain location • Faculty luncheons and faculty events (each team brings breakfast or snacks for the whole staff once a month Revised 7/10
Teacher Incentives • Incentives will be given each 20-day reporting period by tracking attendance and observations from administration to encourage positive behavior: • Praise from administration in mailboxes • Attendance prizes • Students and co-workers can recommend • Drawing for prizes (tickets given to students may also have teacher name, so when student gets prize, so does teacher who gave the reinforcement) Revised 7/11

Character Education • Kingsbury High School infuses character education via morning announcements daily, class meetings as needed, classroom guidance each nine weeks, curricula, etc by administration, staff, and counselors. Revised 7/10

In-School Suspension Plan(If you have ISS Staff) • Adhere to District Procedures • ISS will be used to provide a place for students who commit minor infractions to complete assignments in an alternative setting as a substitute to being in a non-educational setting • I SS will be used for Level 1 infractions and entered by the assistant principal, Nora Jones. • Students will also be guided with social skills and think sheets to possibly deter repetitive misbehaviors.
