What To Do When Tests Arrive At The Schools • Tests will arrive April 6 and 7 • Take an inventory of all materials upon receipt • Report any discrepancies immediately to Accountability and Research • Secure all materials until testing begins • Save all boxes for returning your documents • For additional materials, fax or call Accountability & Research (phone: 617-8187, fax: 617-8188)
What To Expect In Your Shipment CCSA and AIMS Tests are packaged in separate boxes. CCSA Extended Writing Documents (District Quarterly Writing Assessment) • CCSA Extended Writing is an extension of the Quarterly Writing Assessment for Grades 1 and 2 • Grades 1 and 2 will use the 4th quarter district writing prompt as CCSA prompt • Data entered for 4th quarter will be used as CCSA Extended Writing data. • Follow Writing Window and Data Entry dates for 4th quarter • Follow same district guidelines have followed all year for District Quarterly Writing Assessment • Use Six Trait Six Point Writing Rubric for collaborative scoring • Note: No CCSA drafts or final copies to be submitted to Accountability and Research. 8
PROCEDURES PRIOR TO TEST ADMINISTRATION
Preparing Test Administrators • Review test administration procedure at a staff meeting • scheduling timing of subtests • reminding that AIMS & CCSA are NOT timed tests • Grades 3- 8 will take approx. 7 hrs. for all 3 sections • HS will take approx. 2 hrs. for each section • room arrangements • preparing students • administrative procedures concerning secure materials • completing student identification information • proctoring
CCSA TIMES • Like the AIMS, CCSA is not timed • For Grades 1, 2, and ML 1 (Form 1), teacher needs to allot time for the reading of directions and/or questions & answer choices • Reading Test – Directions only are read for Grades 1, 2 & ML 1 (Form 1) • Math – Directions,questions, & answer choices are read for Grades 1, 2, & ML 1 (Form 1)
Ensuring Proper Test • Administration • Any deviation from the procedures set forth in the Test Administrator’s Manual (AIMS) or Test Administration Directions (CCSA)could invalidate test results and needs to be reported immediately • DistributeTest Administrator’s Manual (AIMS) or Test Administration Directions (CCSA) to Test Administrators upon receipt in the building in order for teachers to review the information for each subtest prior to testing • Remind Test Administrators that the Test Adminisrator’s Manual (AIMS) is a secure document
Ensuring Proper TestAdministration (Contd.) • All students should be instructed to bring personal reading materials or class work that they can do if they finish testing before the end of the testing session • Students who need more than the recommended time to complete the test may be relocated to a predetermined supervised test site
Test Preparation • Maintain all student test materials in a locked storage area before and after test administration • No student, teacher or parent should be allowed to examine a test booklet prior to testing nor should any part of a test booklet or the Test Administrator’s Manual (AIMS) or Test Administration Directions (CCSA)be reproduced. NO EXCEPTION • Have following supplies available: • a sufficient quantity of No. 2 pencils with erasers • copy of test booklet and answer document for demonstration
PRE-ID LABELS (Barcodes) YIPEE!!!!!!!!!!! Last year you all did a fabulous job of applying Pre-ID labels in the appropriate place! There was less time spent when you returned the materials in having to bubble in incorrectly placed labels. Let’s keep up the good work!! Thanks!
AIMS –Answer Documents • Reminder – Place Pre-ID Label next to the arrow in the box so that the bar code is fully within the box border (see slide 20) • Form Code must be filled in on answer documents for all AIMS Grades

If Form Code Does Not Get Filled In • Teacher or Site Testing Coordinator will need to find the students test booklet to find out which form code was issued to that student and then fill in the form code grid on the answer document • VERY IMPORTANT --- have student fill in Name on back of test booklet (See slide 25)

Exceptional Education • New Language this year – no longer use term “modification” • Standard Accommodations = changes in presentation or responses to test that do not change fundamental assessment • Non-standard Accommodations = changes in presentation or responses to test that alter fundamental assessment Accommodations • Accommodations must be used in daily instruction

Out-of-Level Testing • Applies to a very small percentage For students who have a primary disability category of MIMR, MOMR, SMR, MD, or MDSSI with an MR component • Out-of-level testing can be done only if the student’s IEP requires this non-standard accommodation • AIMS – No out of level for grade 3, 4, 6, or 7 • CCSA – Out-of-levels are ML 1 (Form1) and ML 2 (Form 2) • The “Other Information” grid (Column J) must be filled in for AIMS for out-of-levels • It is possible for a student to take one content area on level and another one out-of-level
When to transcribe? • If student uses a word processor, tape recorder, scribe, Braille test book, Braillewriter, or a Large Print test book, student’s response MUST BE TRANSCRIBED into an answer document for scoring purposes • When transcribing, use exact words • Applies to both CCSA and AIMS
PROCEDURES DURING TEST ADMINISTRATION
Test Administration • Applies to both CCSA and AIMS • Provide dictionaries and thesauri for use on the extended writing prompt on the writing test ONLY • Calculators may NOT be used on any portion of the tests except as noted in an IEP Accommodation
Test Administration (Contd) • Specific to AIMS • Use of scratch paper is prohibited (may write on their test booklets) • DO NOT allow students to use extra paper to answer their extended-response questions (they can not be scored) • Grade 3 Writing Draft Pages must be collected, separately bundled, and returned with the nonscoreables
Test Administration (Contd) • Specific to CCSA • Use of scratch paper is allowed • Tests will be reused so please remind teachers to not have students write in the test booklets
Improper Test Administration for CCSA or AIMS • reading any portion of the reading subtests or translating or paraphrasing words on test items • leaving materials in view that are directly related to the standards and/or to the test or that would help students to get a correct answer (multiplication tables, synonyms, definitions) • If in doubt, ask yourself, “If the student looks at this material will it help the student get the correct answer?” If yes, then remove the material from view.
ELLs • This year there are no Spanish versions of the CCSA or AIMS • There are some accommodations that can be made if student meets LEP guidelines* as specified by the Arizona Dept. of Education • See TUSD Intranet, link Resources and then link to LEP Guidelines 2003(ADE) and find guidelines for AIMS • These guidelines apply to CCSA as well
PROCEDURES FOLLOWING TEST ADMINISTRATION
Preparation and Return of Scoreable Documents for AIMS • Scoreable documents refers to: AIMS consumable test booklets for Grade 3 Answer documents (bubble sheets) for Grades 4 - 8, & HS • Make sure barcode labels are properly oriented • Answer documents need to be separated by on-level vs. off-level piles • Then each pile needs to be grouped by the enrolled grade of the students (Keep 3rd grade students together, 5th grade students, etc.) • Bring all unused * answer documents sorted by test level * Unused = leftover answer documents (for any reason) • AIMS consumable test booklets for Grade 3 • Answer documents (bubble sheets) for Grades 5, 8, & High • School
