Action Two • Communicate a vision for the future. • Have you developed a vision for 21st century learning that will prepare students to graduate from high school ready for college, careers and citizenship? • How, when, and where will this vision be communicated? And to whom?
Action Three • Take stock of current system capacity to teach the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), and prepare students for SMARTER Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) assessments. • Consider the following: • Curriculum • Teaching • Instructional Materials • Training • Extended Learning Opportunities • Parent and Community

Developing or acquiring instructional materials needed to fill gaps • What are your highest priority needs? • When will these be developed or acquired? • Has the budget/resource allocation been adjusted for acquisition of materials?
Materials: Implementation Timeline 1 Assumes the passage of Assembly Bill 250 (Brownley), which partially lifts the suspension under EC Section 60200.7, and Curriculum Commission funding for 2011 and subsequent years.
Training teachers and staff • Are all stakeholders aware and comfortable with CCSS and SBAC? • Is there a short and long term professional development calendar? • Is there a plan for PD for teachers in the content areas on literacy standards in science, social studies and technology?
Utilizing extended learning opportunities such as after school programs • How will after school programs align and support CCSS and SBAC? • Communicating with parents and community members • How and when will this be accomplished? • Do you have parent representation on the strategic planning team? • Who are your key parent groups that can carry the message?
Action Five • Identify sources of funding that can support this work • Has the district identified and reviewed all funding sources to provide for CCSS and SBAC? • Has the district determined what activities, services, supplies, materials and personnel costs need to be funded? • Which costs can be funded using federal funds? state funds? • Are there current grant funds that can be used?
Action Six • Build technology infrastructure • What is the status of the district’s technology infrastructure? Are we prepared for computer based assessments? • Has a data structure been developed or refined to ensure the necessary flow of data?
Action Seven • Examine emerging data and use it to refine programs. • Is there a process in place to evaluate the impact of transition activities? • How will this data be used to refine activities? • How and when will the data be shared?
