Action One • Identify a core team to lead the work. • Is there a clear point of accountability or multiple points of accountability with clearly delineated responsibility for implementing CCSS for internal and external stakeholders? • Do those in charge have the leverage they need to coordinate the effort?

  3. Action Two • Communicate a vision for the future. • Have you developed a vision for 21st century learning that will prepare students to graduate from high school ready for college, careers and citizenship? • How, when, and where will this vision be communicated? And to whom?

  4. Action Three • Take stock of current system capacity to teach the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), and prepare students for SMARTER Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) assessments. • Consider the following: • Curriculum • Teaching • Instructional Materials • Training • Extended Learning Opportunities • Parent and Community

Action Four • Develop a plan and a timeline for: • Strengthening the curriculum, beginning with the end in mind • Are there balanced and coordinated activities that will align the current curriculum with CCSS? • How well are you teaching to the CCSS? • What more do you need to do? • Augmenting teaching approaches to address CCSS and upcoming SBAC performance assessments • What more do teachers need to know and be able to do to address CCSS and SBAC?

  6. Developing or acquiring instructional materials needed to fill gaps • What are your highest priority needs? • When will these be developed or acquired? • Has the budget/resource allocation been adjusted for acquisition of materials?

  7. Materials: Implementation Timeline 1 Assumes the passage of Assembly Bill 250 (Brownley), which partially lifts the suspension under EC Section 60200.7, and Curriculum Commission funding for 2011 and subsequent years.

  8. Training teachers and staff • Are all stakeholders aware and comfortable with CCSS and SBAC? • Is there a short and long term professional development calendar? • Is there a plan for PD for teachers in the content areas on literacy standards in science, social studies and technology?

  9. Utilizing extended learning opportunities such as after school programs • How will after school programs align and support CCSS and SBAC? • Communicating with parents and community members • How and when will this be accomplished? • Do you have parent representation on the strategic planning team? • Who are your key parent groups that can carry the message?

  10. Action Five • Identify sources of funding that can support this work • Has the district identified and reviewed all funding sources to provide for CCSS and SBAC? • Has the district determined what activities, services, supplies, materials and personnel costs need to be funded? • Which costs can be funded using federal funds? state funds? • Are there current grant funds that can be used?

  11. Action Six • Build technology infrastructure • What is the status of the district’s technology infrastructure? Are we prepared for computer based assessments? • Has a data structure been developed or refined to ensure the necessary flow of data?

  12. Action Seven • Examine emerging data and use it to refine programs. • Is there a process in place to evaluate the impact of transition activities? • How will this data be used to refine activities? • How and when will the data be shared?
