Home Journals • one entry due every Thursday • practice reading his/her journal at home • directions are inside the front cover of the journal • completed by the child

Spelling • weekly spelling lists based on specific spelling pattern and word wall words • reinforced through centers during reading initiative • spelling tests every Friday • words listed on Stone Mill website in the first grade newsletter
Math • Numeration • Geometry • Measurement • Graphing • Problem Solving
Math • Focus lesson • Small group instruction - games and centers • - independent practice • - differentiation
Science • Growth and Survival • Natural and Human Made Resources • Environment • Motion • Magnetism • Electricity
Social Studies • Responsibilities, rights, and rules • Symbols, people • Cultures • Goods and Services • Geography • Past and Present
Homework • homework due the following day, unless otherwise noted • return math homework in the math folder • IXL homework on Wednesdays • reading homework – please refer to the calendar inside the reading folder • must read 15-20 minutes each night
Grading and Reporting • report card every nine weeks • grade for achievement on selected assignments (ES, P, I, N) • daily work and homework checked for completion • code for learning skills (DEM, PRG, N)
Birthday Celebrations • store bought items with ingredient label • no items with nuts • Non-food items are a great alternative (pencils, stickers, erasers) • students with allergies will not be given treats, send in treats
A Few Last Notes… • Please make sure we have your email address • for distribution list • weekly newsletter • Transportation Home • must have a handwritten note sent in the morning, please do not email • contact office for changes during the day
