Mark -Introduction • Was very likely written by John Mark (cousin of Barnabas who deserted Paul on first journey). • Is the shortest gospel in length. • Was written for Romans. • Explains Jewish customs. • Uses Latin expressions. • Quotes O.T. only three times. • Presents Jesus as a conqueror—of storms, demons, disease, and death.

  3. Introduction—Cont’d • Has been called “a moving picture of the ministry of Jesus.” • Uses word “immediately” often. • Records more works than words. • Includes over one half of miracles. • Includes only one fourth of parables. • Uses vivid, picturesque language.
