Method of emotion and behavior management ANGRY BALLOONS IngridaJurevičienė Kedainiai Special School.Lithuania March 05, 2019 Erasmus+ project ,,Collaboration to Have Abilities as New Goals of Education C.H.A.N.G.E“
The method "Angry Balloons" Goal: Helps the student to understand and express his/her experiences. The student can see, feel, and even hear annoyance and anger by beating and breaking the balloons, to better understand their meaning.
The method "Angry Balloons" Time: 20 min. Number of students: 5-7 Age of students: 7-10 years Tools: balloons.
Description method : • Suggest each student (in the group work) to inflate the balloons and tie (tighten) them.
Description method : 2. Explain to students that the balloon can represent the body, and that it contains air-irritation and feelings of anger.
Description method : 3. Ask the students (after they have tightened the balloons) whether the air can now get into it and can get out of it. What happens when these feelings are filled within the student. And if the student is experiencing anger, or then he can stay calm and think well?
The balloons suddenly Explode and the children are frightened
Description method : 4. Ask them if you can look at this way of expressing anger as safe enough, or if not, why? Some students are afraid of the sound of an explosive balloon. Consider with them what this fright may mean.
Description method : 5. Explain to students that if a balloon is a child, an explosive balloon could mean some aggressive behavior. For example the attack of another child and so on. Ask the students whether this form of anger can be considered safe enough.
Description method : 6. Suggest that children inflate another balloons that does not need to be tied up, only to hold the balloon strongly and prevent the air from escaping. And again, the balloon symbolizes man, and the air inside it is irritation and an outbreak of anger.
Students release their air a little and hold it firmly again.
Description method : 7. Pay attention to students that the balloon is falling. "Is it bursting when you have released some air? Can we consider this way of anger more safer? Is the balloon bursting in this case? The balloon remains intact and has not frightened us when we can control the anger it does not harm anyone. It is safe for all of us.
Students slowly release the balloons until there is no more air in them
Description method : 8. When we talk about what causes these feelings we can avoid potential difficulties. When anger accumulates inside our body, once they can "get out on the surface" as the air that escapes from an over-inflated balloon and scares students who are near.
Analysis Analysis: How do you feel when a balloon explodes? Is the sound of a balloon exploding at you scared? Did you like the balloon not bursting? The exercise can be used with regressive students and those who do not control their behavior.
