  2. High speed digital systems laboratory המעבדה למערכות ספרתיות מהירות Abstract The problem we try to deal with is the navigation to the destination by blind people. We suggest a GPS dialog-based navigation system that is customized for blind people and includes continuous data given by voice output . In other words, the purpose is to turn data given by the GPS receiver into relevant information for the blind, such as it’s current location (street name and number), the next turn to the destination and the distance from it, and also creating easy-to-use features, such as “favorites” group of destinations. The system is implemented using Destinator’s SDK, and iPaq 3870is the platform of the navigation system. 2

  3. High speed digital systems laboratory המעבדה למערכות ספרתיות מהירות System description The navigation system’s interface is dialog based. It means that each screen is divided to a number of areas, and in order to do the required operation, the user should press theappropriate “button”. This interface is simplified in order to let the blind use it easily. The main window let the user choose between the regular and the blind versions. In the blind version the main features are: current location (street name and number), a favorites list of destinations and the navigation dialog tells the blind the way to the destination. 3

  4. High speed digital systems laboratory המעבדה למערכות ספרתיות מהירות System description The inputs for the navigation system are the signal from the satellites, the digital maps of the area and it’s database and the input from the user (destination, current location, etc.). 3
