KDDI’s current status & future plan Inbound • Frequency • Since the current Japanese 800MHz frequency bands isn‘t aligned with the North American 800MHz band, it is difficult for our partners to roam in Japan at this moment. • The Japanese 800MHz band reallocation will start around 2007 and is to be completed by 2012. • Since there is some frequency overlap between the new Japanese 800MHz and the North American one, the North American 800MHz handsets will work in Japan. • Foreign Agent • KDDI’s PDSN in our EVDO system will support MIP Foreign Agent (and Simple IP). • KDDI’s PDSN in our 1X system will support Simple IP but NOT MIP Foreign Agent. Outbound • Handsets • We have no plan to develop MIP capable handsets at this moment. • Home Agent • KDDI will have Home Agent by the time we develop MIP capable handsets. Proposal for MIP resolution statement China Unicom, SK Telecom, Hutchison CAT, APBW and KDDI would like to propose the followings. • Since most of the Asian operators do not support Mobile IP at this moment and the future plan is not decided yet, proposed timeline for implementing Mobile IP should be re-considered. • There should be a period for supporting both Mobile IP and Simple IP network in the process to migrate Mobile IP. • There should be some provision to keep the Simple IP network in order to support the existing SIP only capable handsets.
