Career Education Teacher/Counselor Mentoring Program • Continue with Year Two Mentoring during the 2012-13 school year • Will not be starting a new mentoring class this year
Career Education Coordinators • Under the direction of Bragg Stanley and Tom Schlimpert • Focus on Career Development and System of Support with emphasis on gender equity and nontraditional. • Relocation of Region IV CEC to Columbia Area Career Center • Addition of new CEC in St. Louis area – located at Lewis and Clark Career Center • New CECs at Monett, Kirksville and Columbia

Math In CTE Project • Partnership with NRCCTE • Focuses on curriculum integration to improve mathematical understanding • Recognizes CTE teachers are teachers of Math in CTE and not math teachers
Math In CTE Project • How does it work? • Pairs CTE instructors with Math instructors • Starts with the CTE curriculum • Identifies math that naturally occurs within CTE curriculum • Math instructor assists CTE instructor in broadening math concepts from specific tasks to general math essentials.
Math In CTE Project • Family Consumer Sciences is the focus area during the 2012-13 school year. • Instructor teams will develop and implement a minimum of 10 enhanced Math lessons by the end of the year • Future goals • Expand reach throughout the state • Expand program areas: Agriculture and Construction

Literacy in CTE, 2011-2012 Missouri Writing Projects Network Making & Technical Writing Conferences: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjHYZztiToY • Two-day Missouri Writing Projects Network/DESE co-sponsored statewide conference along with shorter, local follow-up conferences held regionally at each university site Cross-Content Literacy Institutes: • Nine-day workshop during the winter semester geared toward improving students’ informational reading and technical/argumentative writing habits in various content areas as required by the CCSS Video Series: https://vimeo.com/44035604 • Series of videotaped lessons contributed by WP Teacher Consultants showcasing effective literacy practices and lessons relevant across content areas
NWP Core Beliefs: • Joins teachers in grades pre-K-16 • Focuses on teaching and learning, not assigning and grading • Blends theory, research, practice • Advocates no single, right approach but rather relies on experience and best practices
Literacy in CTE Project - MRI Missouri Reading Initiative Focuses on assisting teachers of all content areas strategies to support students’ literacy performance Recognizes that CTE teachers are not Reading and Writing teachers. However CTE teachers can intentionally support their content as they assist students with literacy challenges

Two year, on-site, comprehensive training Year one: focus is Reading Year two: focus is Writing Work with both comprehensive high schools and their CTE centers Given modeled strategies of Before, During, and After reading/writing strategies Application of each strategy is to be connected to each content and CTE area
Literacy in CTE Project - MRI Missouri Reading Initiative Collaboration is done with participants sharing how they have used specific literacy support strategies Next year, coaching will follow training with MRI trainer providing feedback to participants
Literacy in CTE - MRI Missouri Reading Initiative In 2011-2012, focused on 4 high schools and 4 CTE centers reaching 156 teachers In 2012-2013 will focus on 6 high schools and 6 centers reaching up to 225 teachers Future plans…expand to more CTE centers and high schools
Literacy in CTE Project - MRI • What Are Some Positive Outcomes For You and Your Students As A Result of MRI? • A wealth of ideas about what to do before we teach something • Good ideas for every content (vocabulary and pre-assessment) • As a result of MRI, I now have exciting new strategies to help increase vocabulary knowledge • I liked how applicable the techniques we learned were • I liked how sessions were tailored for each area.

Displaced Homemaker Fee Waiver • Submit FV-4s for the upcoming school year • Expended all funds the past fiscal year • Deadline for FV-4s – December 31, 2012 • Unobligated funds will be redistributed beginning in January 2013
Student Services Funding • Formerly At-Risk and Counselor Salary Reimbursement • No longer available after June 30, 2013 • Will become Student Services Funding July 1, 2013. • Application Process will be unveiled at MCCTA Fall Conference with subsequent webinars • Looking at comprehensive student services program in place based on local needs

Common Career Technical Core • State-led initiative to establish a set of rigorous, high-quality standards for CTE. • States adopt voluntarily • A set of standards for each of the 16 Career Clusters and their corresponding pathways. • Define what students should know and be able to do after completing instruction in a program of study. • Includes twelve (12) over-arching Career Ready Practices.
