Heathdale Christian College • K -12 College • 1200 approx enrolment • Christian ethos, but wide range of students • Year 9 and 10 Careers classes • 20 students in integrated ASBA’s and growing • VET classes in Sport and Rec., Community Rec., Hospitality, Music, Multimedia, Community Services and Small Business

  4. Year 8 Careers Day • Taste of Senior School and the future • Past students • Industry visits – support from LLEN then WLCP • Visits have included Orica, Alex Recycling, Sunshine Harvester, William Adams, Claytons, John Beevers, Werribee Hospital and various TAFE and Uni sites.

Year 9 Real Game • Week of activities using ‘The Real Game’ from the Real Game series, as a base. • Bill Barry, a Canadian teacher whose 12-year-old daughter felt the subjects she was studying at school were not relevant to her future life. This inspired Bill to create a career and life skills education programme that would help students see the connection between school studies and life after school.

  6. Year 9 Real Game • One full week of activities • Casual clothes • Include business speakers Elly Lukas, Matchworks, Wise Employment, Tax Office • ‘What’s on in Werribee’ – the ‘Great Race’ to find out about their local community

  7. YEAR 10 Mock Interviews • Students prepared in Careers classes • Utilise Business people experienced in Interviewing • Focus on College Networks • Representatives from Business relationships

ABW- Australian Business Week • ABW Programs offer an exciting new learning experience with focus on enterprise skills. • ABW computer simulated programs allow students to assume the role of a company's managers, and make all the decisions affecting their company's performance. • ABW Programs are practical and hands on, encouraging team work, decision making, and responsibility in a fun and innovative format.

  9. ABW at Heathdale • One week at the end of Term 3 for all Year 10 students • Business clothes • Teacher imposed groupings • Local business mentors • Trade Fair open to other students and the public

Leading Enterprise Education Project (LEEP) • ABW/Federal Government pilot • Sought out business with which we had some links • South West Training, Claytons Group, Coffee Pot/Catering group, Oracle • Agreed goals for the project included developing a closer links and enterprise skills for students

  12. LEEP Projects • Claytons Group - Marketing brief • South West – Website brief (assistance from Oracle Corporation) • Catering group – Event brief – this became the final presentation evening where students presented their reports.

  14. Smart Connections, Souvlaki Hut and BGT • Implement ASbA’s for many of our students. • Use College facilities for interviewing, training and feedback. • Provide expertise and support for students and in Careers classes as required.
