Binary Fission • Completed by single-celled organisms • Simplest form of asexual reproduction • One organisms divides into two through mitosis • Example: Bacteria
Budding • Mulit-celluar organisms “splits” through budding • Offspring are smaller than parent; however, will grow and eventually become the same size • Example: Hydra
Regeneration • When a piece of the parent is detached, it can grow into a new individual • Example: Starfish
Advantages • Quick process to complete • Requires less energy from the organism for reproduction to occur • More reliable and less disadvantageous traits
Disadvantages • No genetic variation • If there is a problem with the species there is no room for change
