What need to answer, what we need to do, what we know for each Caribbean site, does it apply regionally? WORKSHOP Data sharing and regional synthesis
Assessment of Long-Term Forest Dynamics in the Caribbean Data sharing and regional synthesis Outline • Goals of Data sharing for regional synthesis • Where are we now? • What do we want to achieve? • Data sharing models - a broad spectrum • Benefits to science and society • Collaborative agreements and Memorandums of understanding • Achieving Regional Analysis and Synthesis • Placing our findings in a broader context • Examples and ideas • Proposing Working Group Themes

Data Collection Use Data Publications Evolution of Data Sharing:Traditional Model Store in out-of-the-way “protected” place, Lose or Discard Data
Evolution of Data Sharing A New Model Data Collection Use Data Data and Metadata • Regional Analyses • Global Change • Long-term Studies • Synthesis Publications
DATA SHARING:benefits both science and society • Sharing data is becoming increasingly important to science, both for the integrity of science (i.e., replication) and for the development of synthetic data products that allow existing data to be applied to new problems. • However, the degree to which researchers are willing to share data depends to a large extent on the responsible conduct of their colleagues who reuse that data. • It is crucial that data users honor the trust placed in them by those who make their data available, by providing proper attribution or co-authorship and accepting reasonable constraints on data use. • Formal ethical guidelines (for any purpose) developed by a community can facilitate decision making by individuals
The timely sharing of scientific data benefits both science and society
Advantages to having a centralized site from which to access data and metadata for Caribbean Forests
Oneend of thespectrum: La Eco-Informática Es una ciencia amplia e interdisciplinaria que incorpora tanto conceptos como herramientas para: el entendimiento, la generación, el procesamiento y la propagación de datos, información y conocimiento ecológico.
Point of view from Guadeloupe: • Our Contribution could be developed around comparisons between Systems, lowland on one side, on the other island. • I say Often to understand the forests of Guyana, we must see Forest of Guadeloupe ... and vice versa. • The forests of the islands (with Disharmonic their flora, their wealth and oddly less Organized, endemism, their specific dynamics, their Specific environmental constraints) can be a Control, a kind of experience might have made to test the Dynamics of biodiversity.
