A chance for teachers to pull students out to intervene and ensure they achieve mastery on important concepts so all students can be successful. This period ensures that students will receive help without being taken out of their classes. • A chance for students to receive enrichment and become stronger in their abilities. • An opportunity to promote organization. What is academic intervention?
Students watch the daily video announcements. • Informational handouts are distributed. • “Channel One” News is shown to inform students of current events. All these used to occur during regular class times. By completing these during academic intervention, students will be learning and engaged more in their content classes. What other things happen during Academic Intervention?
Students are currently researching an assigned country and will create a Country Pavilion exhibit. • They will “visit” other classrooms’ Country Pavilions on theGeoSummit “Walkabout” which is scheduled on Friday, September 23rd. • My 5th period is researching the Mekong River, with our focus on the country of Laos. Geo Summit “Rivers: Lifeblood of our Planet”
Monday: Binder Check for Organization • Tuesday: Critical Reading • Wednesday: No 5th period due to Early Release. (No academic intervention) • Thursday: Continue Critical Reading • Friday: Silent Sustained Reading (SSR) The weekly schedule
Students will read articles and use critical reading strategies. • Preview- Connect to text and use prior knowledge • While Reading- Mark text for author’s claims • After Reading- Writing exercise Critical Reading
